I was in my local Smith's store and was told I could not use the $1 off 1 20 or 32 oz Powerade coupons to purchase the product as the item price was less than the coupon price (.69). They said it would be coupon fraud. Have any of you ever ran into this situation before?

First off, :welcome36: to HCW, and specifically to the Smith's forum!

I would have asked for a manager on the coupon policy. It is a YMMV (your mileage may vary) for overage. But, at the very least you should get the item free and make sure they x out the $1.00 or 75¢ and write in the shelf price. My manager lets customers get overage. Or use the coupon overage towards more of the same item.... I would call customer service for verifcation.

My Smiths does not allow overage, they adjust the coupon to the price of the item.

But I agree you should have asked for the manager for clarification.

Same here. I have specifically used that coupon several times at our Smith's w/o issue.

I used the .75¢/1 yesterday. The registered beeped and the perplexed cashier asked how much the powerade rang up as. I told her .69¢. She wrote that on the coupon. No overage for me or the store.
