New site upgrade technical issues only

Here are the things we're aware of:

* No ads subscription people getting a blank column
* Bread crumbs (tracking where you on on a page/forum) need to be put back up
* FAQ is dinked up
* Coupon resource tab doesn't drop down (but we are linking it to a page so you can at least go in and grab the links)
* Pages on social groups don't let you get past the first page

Please use this thread for techincal issues only. We've closed all other threads to consolidate them so Mark can work through them for other issues, but he's cleared up some of them.

Note that we're done with the color discussion, so please do not post those comments in here - they will be deleted. Mark was having a heck of a time wading through all that to see what the real technical issues were.

Edit button is the first button from the left on the bottom right corner of your post, it is next to the Quote, multi, reply buttons. But remember edit is disabled in Hot Under the Collar and Auctions forums.:wavehi:

Update - coupon resources tab doesn't drop down yet, but all the links are there on a collective page, so you can at least get to them right now.

The member's list table was always gianormous! Heidi shortened the tables a bit to what you see now, and we're going to try to figure out what the "non-essential stuff is so we might be able to shorten it further. But it was huger than that 3 days ago.

You can also click either HCW logo - those are hyperlinked and will take you back to the home page.

There's a "to top" button on the bottom callout box and a "home" link at the top left.

Eisor - Mark is slowly wading through the lists from yesterday - going from biggest to smallest. So yes, they and the screen shots are still there - no need to redo all that.

1. click the logo in the upper left hand corner and it will bring you to the main page

you can either right click the scale and select "open in new window" or "open in new tab", or you can click the post number (i.e. #24, upper right hand corner of each post) and that opens it in a new tab.

IMO, it is not convenient not able to be able to read posts while waiting for a reply on PM, for example.
in order to check if I have a new PM I need to scroll both, side AND top/bottom. Please put at least PM notification on the top as it used to be.

We changed the red links on the forum headers/new posts/etc to a dark gray/light gray combo. They will be Dark Gray if you haven't visited that forum, and Light Gray when they've been read. Hopefully that is a little more sensitive on the eyes for some who were having issues yesterday.

For Itrader, you can just click on the hyperlink under someone's Itrader number under their member name.

For reputation, it's at the bottom of the orange sidebar when you post - the little scale is there.

We had it that way before, and we removed it because each link on the home page caused people's computers to drag and caused slower load times. We wanted to be mindful of the load time for people on dialup, which is about 10% of the people who use the site, so we removed it and won't be putting it back up in consideration of load times for others.

It's not really - it's also clickable on the right screen in the USERCP box on every page except when you're reading a post. We can adjust even that page to show the right column there too.

The tabs on all the boxes on the right side are clickable. The USERCP tab on the box is even larger than the other one was before when it was in the bar. So it's now accessible from two places - the bottom link and the top right link on your USER CP box.

I think this is a "technical issue"...In the coupon database..the search results headings:"Options, Description, Amount, Off, Expiration...etc" are in very dark blue with a black background so you can't read them unless you roll your mouse over them.

You can set the subscription any way you want. My guess is right now you are set up automatic with no confirmation. I have my set to no subscription.

I disagree. Making it very slightly less convienent for those who have fast page loading times anyway to make it so that those who have a slow connection can use the site much faster is a fair trade off, IMO. I am trying to see if I left feedback for someone and I can't. I used to be able to click on my feedback # and check from there. I went to the member list and typed in the name but no feedback # under that name so couldn't check it that way either.

Considering I'm one of the 10%, and am on EVERY day, between 2-7 hours each day, I am EXTREMELY appreciative that little things like that have been dealt with, with dial-up in mind.

:smile: TY! At one point in life, I think everyone has been on dialup, and if you think back that far, you'll remember how horrible it is. For a site with so many people to think about a small amount of us, and allow us the same accessibilty on the site as those that have fast internet, is just an amazing thing. The fact that we are a consideration in the planning and execution of the technicalities of the site, well that is just amazing to me, and I greatly appreciate it!!

One more thing.

When I'm reading a pm of a conversation that has gone on a while, it expands so much that it requires me to scroll over, and the previous conversation gets so small it requires me to pull out a magnifying glass to read back far. It makes it very difficult to get information from early in the conversation.

three options until this is fixed, justmeagain:


upgrade to firefox 3.0
click on the post count number, i.e. #80 (permalink) to open a new window
right click on the scales and select either "open in a new window" or "open in a new tab" and rep from there.

They (Mark) have a list of trouble shooting and suggestions, let them work thru it and tell you they are done before you keep harping on them, there is nothing worse than a monkey on your back when you know what it is that you need to fix.:whistle:

I read through this thread yesterday, but don't remember if this is addressed and don't have the time right now to read through again...maybe this issue is the "breadcrumbs" mentioned, not sure what that is.

My issue: I don't see a header at the top of the page that shows which forum (or thread - my computer literacy is lacking somewhat) I am currently reading.

I was excitedly compiling shopping list and coupons when I realized I was reading deals for a store not in our area.

Feeling a bit lost, but with time will learn my way around!

When you're reading a post, the only place is to get it from the bottom. But on every other page, you can get it on the right side. We tried the 3-column when you're reading a post, but it's a little much for long posts.

That said, we'll see what we can work through on this....

The are tied to one color box that's tied to several other places on the site, and it might not look right to change it in those other places and I don't know if it can be changed in just one individual spot.

But (you knew there had to be one), there's no way to access PM's after you send feedback. Let me explain. When I send feedback to a member, and hit send, it takes me back to their iTrader page, just like it always did. BUT...there's no link at the top of that page, to get back to my PM page, so that I can leave FB for another member. This morning, I had 7 of them to do, and had to keep going back to the User CP, then to PMs to find each person. I don't know if this is fixable. I can live without if if not!

I have Firefox (not sure which version) and it keeps logging me out everytime I click on UserCP, Coupon Database or try to make a post. I managed to make this posts by logging in with Internet Explorer. I like the new colors and grapics and overall design, but it is getting really frustrating not being able to post, access the database or check my UserCP. It is also loading pages VERY slowly now and I have never had issues of speed before--I have highspeed internet. Sorry to complain, but I'm going into HCW withdrawel!

Thank you Der. Upgrading did NOT change anything for me (except I can see the rep scales), however changing my security settings did. I had to set Firefox to accept cookies. It seems to be working fine now. I don't know why that made a difference, but if anyone else is having the same problem I was having (being logged off) try going to Tools --> Options --> Privacy and then select accept cookies. You can even set it to only allow cookies from this site if you want to be safer.

Here's an interesting little quirk--normally I stay logged in all the time, but dh cleared everything out. So today I came here and the first thing I clicked on was the database. I wasn't logged in, so had to and I did click remember me.

When I first saw the changes to the site, I must admit that I HATED the new look, but I kept my mouth shut...er, ah, fingers shut? The gray/white stripes were too bold and the site was mostly pink, yes pink with a little light orange framing everything. Links I had previously clicked on appeared so pale gray that they were a little difficult to see.

Today, for the first time I checked the site on a different computer and was so surprised. The site looks great--no more pink, instead there is a nice peachy color that doesn't clash with the orange. The stripes are much more muted. The previously clicked links are much darker and visible. I actually like it. So I checked on yet another computer and found the colors are good on that computer too.

So here is the question: does anyone know how to fix the colors on my laptop so the site isn't pink? It isn't simply a matter of contrast or brightness, and I have never noticed a problem with any other site. The laptop is the computer I use to visit the site most often because I can use it while nursing the baby, and now that I know how the site was suposed to look I just can't go back.

in a multi page thread, when i reply to a post, after i submit, i'm taken back to an earlier page in the thread instead of back to the page i was viewing when i hit reply. i checked options and see no setting for this so i think it's a tech issue ?

Yes in order to leave another trader feedback one needs to be able to find thier itrader page easily. In a post or a PM the link is in the post-bit but when you receive a trade in the mail many times us traders will search the members list for that member and go to profile, and then find thier iTrader link via the profile.

So basically we need iTrader link in our profiles.:wavehi:

Could be that you can not open google documents. Are you maybe surfing from work where they may have blocked google docs since many of the ad scans are hosted on google docs and the Walmart pricebook is as well.

Have you tried printing using the printable version of the page? (Click on Thread Tools at the top of the first post in the thread and choose Show Printable Version) it should take away all of the background color and images, etc for a cleaner copy.

Yes you can change the number of posts. When viewing your Control Panel, on the right column choose Edit Options. You'll be able to change the amount of posts per page there.

This is normal. Members can only do what is called a "soft delete" of visitor messages. Admin and mods can still view these soft deleted messages if we need to (such as in the case of spam or other rule violations)

However each member can control who can leave messages on thier profiles via settings in your UserCP>Edit Options (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions). You can turn profile messaging off or you can set it so that only your contacts can leave messages.

This is an issue with SmartSource.com and their coupon printer add-on. It hasn't been updated to work with Firefox 3. The HCW folks can't fix this. I would recommend writing to SmartSource to ask when an update will be available.

As Eisor mentioned, it should work ok with Firefox 2.

I am not totally sure if this has been previously addressed or not, and if so I am sorry for repeating. I have FF 3.0 and when reading either a PM or post in a forum, if the post/PM is wider than normal, my screen cuts it off. It seems like the side bars (Buddy list, ads, Popular tags, ect.) seem to overlap the PM/Post and make it impossible to read. I for some reason also am not able to scroll over? That's an outside link - we don't have any control over them, but it's a connection Heidi has so we'll work to see if there's something wrong on their end.....who knows, they could be out of business or any number of things.

No, but you can leave a link in the visitor's page for yourself. In that comment you can link to your own have/wish list. If users started doing that then it would work, but the best way to find someone's h/w list is to search for them, view one of their posts, and then look in their signature line.

You can only track a message if you asked for a message receipt.

I'm not sure this is a technical issue, but is there anyway to make it so that I can tell when someone has posted in one of the social groups I belong to without going to the group? Like a notification in my User CP or profile? Or if that's not possible, is there a way to tell if there is anyone else viewing the social group when I go there? Forgive me if these exist already it takes me a while to figure out navigation of all these great new features.

Okay...a few things I'm noticing.

I want to add reputation but the little box won't pull down. It just shows the line "Add to Reputation" but no option under that and no way to actually leave reputation. :( I really miss being able to do that.

Seems like my access to my private information is spotty. Sometimes I'll click on it and it will show me the option to go to my private messages...other times it won't let me click on anything and I have to go to my user profile page another way. It's frustrating.

Also, I'm glad to see the breadcrumbs. :) Looks like those have been fixed nicely.

I am not totally sure if this has been previously addressed or not, and if so I am sorry for repeating. I have FF 3.0 and when reading either a PM or post in a forum, if the post/PM is wider than normal, my screen cuts it off. It seems like the side bars (Buddy list, ads, Popular tags, ect.) seem to overlap the PM/Post and make it impossible to read. I for some reason also am not able to scroll over? Just wondered if this was just me? :shrug7:

Are you including the "http://" to the beginning of your link when you enter it? If you enter "google.com" in the box, it will add "http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/" to the beginning. It you enter "http://www.google.com", it shouldn't.

(Not sure if it matters, but I have my display option set to view the newest post first - so in order to see the original post, I scroll to the end or hit "Last page")

A) If I'm reading a thread and make a post, it brings me back to the original posting - previously it used to bring me back to the newest post (usually mine).

B) When I'm reading a thread and I hit refresh, it brings me back to the original posting of that thread instead of refreshing the page I was actually on.

Is there a setting I need to change or is this a new glitch?

I was wondering this as well - I ONLY use feeds to get the newest posts and sometimes it's up to 24+ hours since the last update. Is there a setting somewhere that I need to adjust or is this just the way it is?

In my experience, it's not if the page has finished loading or not. I can go back to page 18 of this thread and try to rep people, and the only one I'm able to get the full drop-down rep bar is for pennywatcher. I tried it on another page and it only worked for one mod, but not another. :shrug7:

edit: It brought me back to the page with the same page with the post, but it was at the top of the page. I'm thinking it should bring you back to your post on that page. I could see that it would be a problem if you have your settings to more than the default 10 posts per page. Let me work on it.

I'm not sure I understand. If you click on the link in the pm you are taken to a rollup of your itrader comments with the most recent feedback first. If you look at the column to the right of the feedback comment, there is a yellow post-it note icon. If you click on that you will be taken right to a feedback page for that person. I looked at the old way and you were taken to a itrader_detail page, then you had to click on the username then click leave feedback. Old way = three clicks / New way = two clicks.

What makes even more odd is that you can get the dropdown on the last post of a page, but none of the other posts.

Yes, I'm guessing your post was swept up in the move that occurred on Monday night. If you think a post of yours is missing then pm queenofthehivemomof5 or one of the other mods and they will dig it out to other forum. It truly was an accident that the posts got moved. We are trying to figure out how best to solve this, but it will take some time. In the mean time please contact queen or another mod and they will be happy to get your post back to the right place.

As of today when you click on new post it covers the whole page and you have to move the thing over on the bottom. Its kinda hard to read since everything is streached so much. On every other page its normal with the empty gray area on the left side. I dident like the gray area at first but now i wish the new post would go back with that on the left side so its smaller. Am I making since? Lol

Luckycharms - I think that's a temporary thing. Heidi changed the view results to 200 views per page and I think that made the new posts page scroll over. It's only temporary while she fixes the thing with the posts getting moved to the archive area by mistake. That way, she can mass move back 200 posts at a time instead of 10 or 20 at a time. But I think when she did that, that's what's causing that issue and it should resolve itself when she finishes restoring the old posts.

There is an issue with firefox and repping people. They will not work on any post except the last post on a page. For some reason the dropdown box only shows the top part of the menu.

The current work around is to right click on the rep button and select "Open this link in a new window." This will put a single post on the page and the drop down menu will work.

I am actively working on a fix for this issue.
