At the moment we are aware of a problem with some members (Mostly with AOL) not recieving email notifications on subscribed threads or new PM's. We are working on this problem.

For some reason, I can only see 61 posts per page in a thread. I can tell that most threads have 100 posts per page, because I can always go to page 2 of a thread and it starts with 101. So basically I miss the last 40 posts of any thread. If a thread has 3 pages, I can see 1-61 of page one and 101-160 (or so) of page two, etc. I'm missing so many posts that I feel I can't post anything because I assume my question or comment has already been added, but I can't tell for sure.:hectic1:

Do I have some setting configured wrong? I've never messed with any settings here, so I assume they are set to a default.

When I view a message thread, I don't see a date or time on the posts ... if someone says "so & so worked for me today" ... I really can't tell when 'today' was.

Is there a way for me to "turn on" something so that there will be a date on each post? I've looked on the User CP page but maybe I'm overlooking something?

It should be on each post. I see (upper left hand corner of the post) that you posted this today at 9:57 am. On later dates, it will show the date. I think it's automatic, since I have never set anything.

You do need to actually open the thread to see it.

Hmmm ... I just changed from "Pink" forum skin to "Gray" and now I can see it. :BigHand: I wonder if in the "Pink" skin the lettering is also pink so it doesn't show up?!?!?!?

If you want to see what I was talking about with NOT having the date ... try making yours pink and see if it shows up for you ... :whistle:

I have a related question....why is it that I see the time someone posts differently than others even when we are in the same time zone? For example, Mrs P, you mentioned that the OP posted at 9:57. However, on my screen, I see the time she posted as 10.57.......which is wierd since the actual time here is only 10:22 EST! And, I see Mrs P's post at 11:10 AM even though it is not even 11 AM here! Should I be changing any settings/options to see the correct time?

I have my time set to Eastern Standard Time ... you can set yours on the User CP under 'options' (I think) .... I believe this will 'adjust' all the posts to reflect your chosen time zone ... but I could be wrong.

The pink skin has a pink color for the time stamp. Or close to pink. If you take your cursor to the area it should be in you'll see it change to a text cursor, and if you highlight that area you can read the time stamp. So, something we need to fix :)

Julie, sorry for the delay in getting to your question. I am not sure why you are having this problem. As far as I know no one else is having this problem so I am assuming it might be a problem on your end.

First after thinking about your question some, I am wondering if you are jumping to the last page accidentaly. I just pulled a random multiple page thread up and took a snip of the screen.

to go from page to page click the next number. So to go from page 1 to page 2 click the number 2.

I am wondering if you are trying to click the little arrow button but are instead clicking the "last" button instead. The "last" button will take you to the last page of the thread.

Second if that is not the case I would suggest that you have a look at your user control panel (usercp) which can be found in the top toolbar, first link on your left.

Once in your usercp go to "edit options" link and under "thread display options" you have the option to show 40, 30, 20, 10, or 5 posts per page. Choose which one you would like.

If that is still not working for you, you may need to log out, delete your cookies and temp internet files, and log back in.

Right now those are the only ways I can see to perhaps fix the problem you are having.

Morning :( ok I'm going through serious chat withdrawls already this morning.. I can't get in to my favorite place in the whole world.. besides with my family.. ok. I signed in to hcw. That is no problem. Then I click on chat via the 3 little head icon and it tries to get me to chat. I see the page for a second that it is saying that I am there.. but then it bumps me back to asking for my name and password :( and when I try typing them in again.. nothin.. :( I really miss my chat buddies already.. so HELP ME!!!! I also tried clearing Internet temp files and cookies. Logged back on and still cannot see the last posts..for example, I am trying to see the last posts of the thread "Coupon Fraud What Is It?". The last post I see is from 11-17-07 from MegansMom, but I can only see the name, not the post. Cannot see any posts after that, yet I know some are there, because I posted one, and QOTH5 replied (I saw on email notice). Can also see on the index page a post later, but when I click on that last post, it just takes me to the top of the thread, last posts not on the bottom. Almost seems like there s/b a page 2, but no page 2 indicator at the top of the thread. Can you determine what I am doing wrong? TIA for any assistance. :shrug7:

I was having the same problem - could see the posts were there but clicking on them gave me a blank screen... I use Firefox and had tried clearing all my private data. No luck.
I opened up with IE and it prompted me for an expired Verisign certificate and a Flash upgrade. Now I can get in with IE but not with Firefox. Maybe that will help.

I am sure that you are aware of this, but just wanted to post my results nonetheless. And perhaps some of the members will want to switch browsers for the duration of the site slowdown to improve performance.

Internet Explorer is the worst for viewing this site at the moment. The slowdown in loading the site is *extremely* noticeable. The Hot Coupon World Logo will load and then the rest of the site (forum and other ads) can take anywhere from 20-50 seconds to load.

Using Opera last night I barely noticed any slowdown at all. Not much more than just my normal lag.

Netscape, that I just tried now, has a bit of a slowdown, but nowhere near as bad as IE. The Logo and the new ad to the left load almost immediately, and then the rest of the forum loads shortly thereafter.

So those of you who are experiencing problems that are starting to really get on your nerves, try a different browser if you can. At least until the good folks at HCW get the bugs worked out.

Yes, I am using Firefox right now and it is still noticeably better than IE. There is a bit of a delay, but not the half a minute-minute delay.

Ouch. Now that is really awful.

I've noticed a real slowdown now vs earlier. I don't know if it is server load or what. But it almost like something is trying to load on the site and just freezing everything up.

Um, we don't require an ActiveX to view the site. Can you send Mark some information about this cause we don't have anything like that. If you're downloading something like that to see the site, it's nothing that we have you use, so something's strange there and Mark would like to look at it if you can provide him some details or a screen shot. You can PM him here through the site.

lmcconne, have you done all the suggestions in the other thread, like log out, delete cookies on your computer, restart your computer and then log back in to see if there's any difference?

You might try deleting your temporary internet files and cookies, then logging back into the site - that should help!

It didn't solve it over here with IE. I cleared everything on this system and, with IE, I am still spending a good chunk of time staring at the Hot Coupon World Logo, waiting for everything else to load.

I'll check my other systems as the day progresses and see how they work with IE.

I suddenly can not see the date and time stamp at the top of the posts. I checked under "user cp" to see if it was on optional thing, but I didn't see a prompt to enable/disable it. The one thing I did change was the board color. Would that knock off the stamp on posts?
It is irritating, because I have no idea when these posts are written now. The info could be current or months old, I can no longer tell.

The time stamp is pretty much the same color as the background on some of the colors. It's still there if you highlight it.

I think it's only the Pink option that makes the time/stamp info seem to disappear

I had your issue also, but found a tip about changing options in the User Control Panel. Now that my pages are splitting out into 40 posts I can see everything. Missed a lot of posts before! My computer is dial up, very slow and out of date. HTH :wink7:

I have the same problem when I use Safari - I downloaded Firefox and can use HCW just fine now. Unfortunately, a lot of the printable coupons aren't compatible with Firefox, so I have to copy/paste links over to Safari to print. Not convenient, but it works!

Everything on my screen is blown up to twice its normal size and I have to scroll horizontally just to see the whole HCW home page. I like how the font is bigger, but not how I have to scroll so much, and to top it off most of the words are scrambled together and overlapping. You lose edit ability on posts after a year. You should post a new have list and then use the report post link on the original thread (the little red triangle on the upper right of the post) to notify the mods that you need the original thread deleted.

ETA: Oh and send the link to the new have list to Lanichan to add to the index thread.

Okay I have a stupid question.....I've been here for six months now (awesome site by the way) and I am always checking out new posts via the "new posts" link. Well today when I click on new posts it brings up like 2-5 threads (not pages.....threads). I couldn't have read all 5 million posts by now (or have I?). I have cleared my cookies and temporary internet files and that did not help. How do I get the 5-16 pages to come back up when I click on "new posts"? I hope this question is not too confusing!?! I PM'd the mod for the alphabetized wish/have lists to put me into the alphabetical lists.

She merged my have list with gr8diva's (I can see the confusion in the names). Now my have list links to nowhere, and gr8diva's has my have list on the end of hers.

I've gotten two PMs from people wanting to trade gr8diva's haves for my wishes, and when I tried to forward one to gr8diva, I got a messgage that the user doesn't exist.

She has an awesome have list and just got a bump. I don't want her to miss out on some trades.

Could someone please put this back the way it was and then add me to the alphabetized list?

Hi, the board went down yesterday due to a server issue. You can uninstall the Zend Optimizer that you downloaded, it will not harm your computer, however.

My experience has been the opposite. Firefox and Opera run this site with barely noticeable lag. IE has a very noticeable "hang" in the loading process.

the "date of each post" is still in place
it is "invisible" in one of the "Forum skin" styles. Let me guess are you using the "Pink" one?
Try a different board style and you shall see the dates again :wavehi:

The default was changed in order to make pages load faster for folks who use the default. You can go into your User CP and change it for yourself. Click the link for "User CP" up at the top of the screen then "Edit Options" on the left. Somewhere toward the end of the page is a dropdown where you can select how many posts to show on a page.

I can't figure out how to send PM and what do you do when the database says you can't print coupon cause you have already printed your limit but your printer didn't print?

Up in the upper right hand corner, under where it says Welcome to you and tells you when the last time you visited here, you'll see Private messages: Unread #, Total #

just click on private messages.



And in the database if there's a coupon that you know you've never printed before and it's telling you that you've already printed your limit, then it may be an offer that's ended. Just click on the exclamation mark in the triangle to report it to me. Type in a quick explanantion, and we can look into it and if it is indeed a dead offer, we can delete it from the database

this is a very technical question regarding your Flash Chat program. I find this to be reminiscent of the IRC clients currently being used on traditional IRC servers. Does this Flash Chat program reside or point to a traditional IRC server that I might be able to use? I was in chat last night and Flash chat nearly killed my computer. My IT Geek fiance builds me a very current and robust machine and flash chat just shut me down.

i've tried twice to print from the hcw printable database. both times it shows its going to print and then nada...nothing happens. but it shows on hcw smartsource that i've gotten my coupon.

i've allowed all the printer programs, i have paper and ink, printer is on..

what am i doing wrong?

i don't have trouble from boodle or "regular" smartsource (though hcw has different coupons sometimes from what i find on the "regular" one)....

its frustrating and i would appreciate any advice.

Have you tried unplugging the printer for a few minutes and then plugging back in? Not sure if it will help with your problem but just an idea. Hope you get it fixed one way or another. Good luck.

Here's what I do to get around it: Since I'm on their profile page anyway, I click on "threads started by __________" . Then, I find their WL thread, and click on it. That usually works. Otherwise, I just go to the WL forum, and do a search for their WL.

I know it's a little more time-consuming, but a lot less frustrating than seeing that error message. HTH a little!

anytime that you get an error message for that - if you send a pm to any of the super mods or admin, we can look into it for you and see if we can fix the threads so that they'll work again. It happens sometimes and it's usually an easy fix!

Something funny is going on. At first i thought this site was just being really slow for some reason. But checked it from work and works perfect! But at home from both of my computers it seriously takes 2 to 3 minutes to load the front page or a link i click on within HCW. FYI...it does not do it on any other website. I've had this problem for a while on both my computer and my husbands laptop. Sometimes hitting the refresh button speeds it up, but sometimes I just sit there with an orange screen for a minute before it says "done" at the bottom with NOTHING else on the screen but the HCW logo and orange. If I hit refresh, sometimes it will bring up the full screen..

I am on cable, too. Comcast, so I wonder if that means anything...?

Hi All.


I just subscribed to this website yesterday, and I LOVE all the information here. However, I'm having issues navigating the site. (I'm new to blogs and forums, so some of my terminology may be off) I get on, and I am able to see all the threads in all the forum and can click on one and read the replies inside. Then, when I exit that particular thread and go back to the blog main page, all the blog/thread names have disappeared. The description of them is still there, or the name of the person that wrote it is there, but there is nothing for me to click on to enter the blog/thread. I can even get off the internet and put my computer to sleep and come back hours later, and still can't pull up the blog/thread names to click on and enter. I know that in my first few days of membership I need to post at least a few things in order to have access to more areas of the site, but I'm not going to be able to. I just happened to luck out when I got on this time and could get in all areas. I have Road Runner through Brighthouse for my internet service and have a Mac with OSx 10.3.5. Any ideas what could be happening?

Nope. The item wasn't bumped. The board works fine now, but that night nothing (and I mean nothing) from the end of May through July was anywhere on the board in CVS (at least on my viewing). It was real odd, but I am not having the issue anymore.

Late last night, I replied to a thread (post is here (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/publix/119280-publix-brand-challenge-update-week-6-12-a.html#post919050)) and attempted to attach some pics (using the "Upload File from a URL" function). Each time, the board came back with the error msg "Upload failed due to failure writing temporary file." This same error happened to me a week ago (trying to post a reply to that same thread).

I got around it by downloading the pics onto my computer, and then attaching them from there (using the "Upload File from your Computer" function).

I just tried again in this post, and got the same error. The URL I was trying to read from is http://www.publix.com/managed_images/sif421248.jpg (direct from Publix's web site).

What's up? Is there something about that filename that the board doesn't like?

Edit: Right now it is a known bug the vBulletin team is working on. I tried the work around, but it does not work.

The only choice is to continue to download and then upload from your computer.

It is because of AOL. Do you have an alternate email address that you could use?

Are you using outlook express or outlook? If using outlook then I believe there is a safe sender list you can add it to the address list. I'm not sure about outlook express, but I would think it would have a similar feature. It might only need to be added to your address book.

Forget the yahoo account. Gmail is much better! For one thing, they don't tack on those annoying ads to the bottom of every message you send. They're also not as bad about marking incoming messages falsely as spam. I'm sure there are a bunch of people here (including me) who will be happy to send you an invite if you need one.

I'm having problems w/ my mouse. The kids have managed to destroy the ports, (from tripping over the cord, and pulling out) the wire leading to the mouse. Now, my laser mouse is trying to give up the ghost on me as well.
Half the time, I can't even log in, or click on ANYthing. I will be at work today, but will attempt to be back online this evening, to post the Weis ad. So if I'm late getting the ad up, that is why.

First question...it's a know error. It has to do with members that are using firefox or something like that. Our site is slated for a re-design on the night of the 9th...and that should resolve the issue.

Second question, try our social groups (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/group.php)to see if there is a group for your area. If that does not work you can try posting and seeing if there are others in your area or you can search the members list (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/members/list/)

There is a quick fix to your problem with having to highlight everything to see the links, but like Heidi said, it should be fixed late when we do the re-design. In the meantime though, you can scroll down to the bottom of the screen and in the left hand corner, where it says Default, click on the dropdown menu and choose Boring Ole Gray.

I don't know when the search times out. What I do is hit New Posts then click the link to take me to the last page of threads. The threads are listed in reverse chronological order based on last post so I work my way backward through the pages of threads. If I don't get all the way through the list before I have to leave or before the search times out, it's pretty easy to figure out where I left off. I hit New Posts again, go to the last page, and work my way back through the pages looking for read threads (thread title is no longer bold). Anything that comes after a read thread has been covered; I've either read it or decided based on the title to skip it. So once I find the earliest read thread, I start reading again. Does that make sense?

My wishlist has disappeared as well.

I'm having the same problem. I clicked the links in my sig. and it said I didn't have permission to view the page. Then I tried to do a search for them and they didn't show up.

I wanted to add that I searched the wishlist forum and could not find my w/l anywhere...it's like it disappeared? Same with my havelist. Thanks.

JoeDTMBro!!!, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
But if you look through the forum for the original post for a recipe it works fine. Again i'm sorry if you are already aware of this and if not posted in the right thread.

I haven't received any instant email notifications for my subscribed threads since yesterday sometime though new posts have been added. I also didn't receive email notification with regards to a PM that I received today.

I double checked my options settings and all are set to "Instant Email Notification."

Our mail server is a trickle type server. In other words it queues up the email and then sends them out in small batches throughout the day. If there is a large amount of email then your message could get delayed.

Gotcha...makes sense...but I know that there was atleast a 12 hour period where the replies to the posts didn't get sent to the queue (ie, they never made it to the batch).

I'll let you know if I notice it again.

I don't know if it is just my computer, or if this is a problem for anyone else, but my little smile guys don't move anymore! The clappers and laughers, and the flowers that are supposed to open and close; they are all there, but they don't move!

I know this was mentioned previously, but I'm unaware of any outcome. I can only rep if I do so in a new window. This in itself isn't a huge issue except that it takes FOREVER for the page to load and completely freezes firefox when I do it.

I've severely cut back on the amount of reps I want to give because of this. I don't have time to wait a full two minutes for the new page to completely load so that I can rep someone. This isn't fair to those that I want to rep.

So is there some work around that I'm unaware of, or what is the status on a fix for this?

I'm also having a problem with the rep feature. It seems that if I click on the scales on any of the posts other than the one on the very bottom of the page all I seem to get is the line that says "reputation" and the dotted line that runs under it. Nothing else. Am I doing something wrong?

This is intentional. We have new spam control measures in place now and so have upped off the restrictions for new members. They now have full board privleges including PM's etc. But remember they still need to be members of the trading group should you ever need assistance with a bad trade from our bad trade mod/mediators. So encourage them to join the trader group!

The posts that you were repped on could have been moved (likely to the trash forum where some old posts are moved to so that post counts don't go down) or deleted. That is why you can not view them anymore.

UserCP - Subscribes Forums - Headers columns seem to be fewer than table columns. This is causing all table columns to be shifted by one and have odd column widths. For ex, the row icon is in a really WIDE column and the forum name is in a skinny one...


Also I would love to see the forum icons to not only differ in appearance based on read or not but also color as I have trouble detecting if there are unread messages in a particular forum by the current subtle change in the images now.

I have this problem at home where it's been taking time to load a page at HCW, and then the bar at the bottom says 'done', but the page hasn't loaded yet. And nothing happens.
I have to click 'stop' and then 'refresh' to get the page to load.
Now I'm at work...on a really slow computer anyhow, and I'm getting the same thing.
Whether or not it's HCW or these computers I'd like to know how to eliminate the problem.

Ditto...I've just been hitting the back button once and then reclicking the link I wanted and it loads the next page requested. Not sure whats going on since I've never had this problem before.

Even more annoying for me though is when I select the "more" link under all the smilies. When the little pop up box opens, my screen goes crazy. The box starts flickering and only half of it will load and my whole internet explorer will eventually freeze!:shrug7:

I'm having issues with page loading times. Alot of times I have to refresh or get out because it's taking 2 minutes or more for a page to load. I am on Internet Explorer 6.0 and with a cable modem

I also am getting a "HTTP 404 Page Not Found" a lot of the time when I use the breadcrumbs to go back to the forum I was in.

Hey guys! I am having some issues on the board. I have new additions on the bottom of my main page with some access into mod forums. Have no idea why.

Now, when I tried to bump my auction up, I noticed there was no 'quick reply' so I clicked on 'new reply' and got an 'Lmncc2003 you do not have permission to access this page"...??? :hectic1:

I am having issues with being able to log on. So are other people who have emailed me. It says-Do not have permission. I sent a message to Julie but thought I'd address it here also. For some reason its letting me be here but I'm quite sure it will tell me no permission when I try and hit the post quick reply.

All of a sudden when I click on new post or go into any forum the whole site stretches across the whole screen and I have to scroll over to see the end of the post. Its usally normal for me. Anybody know why the site is so big all of a sudden? Thanks :)

I've noticed since the change over ... that my rep points have increased on occasion.. without someone repping me. I go to check out who repped me for what only to find out they are magic rep points that just appear. No new reps are on my board. Just thought you should know about these magic reps ???? You're wishlist is over a year old. Once it gets that old it won't be editable anymore. You need to make a new thread for your wishlist. (Might want to copy what is in your original one, so you can just paste it into the new thread instead of typing it all out again).

i was in the food lion grocery store forum looking at "its got to be real". on the one post in there, is a link to "here" to go to another "its got to be real" forum. when i click it, i get an invalid forum screen. on there is link to report to admin, which i did. but when i finished, it brought me back to the invalid forum screen. so i'm posting here, in case it never got reported! thanks!

But there haven't been any updates. Every time I go to the "newest" post, its the same person who last posted. There isn't anything new.

Will a thread show up in the User CP if someone edits a post in there? Or is this really an issue. I know its a minor thing, but it is driving me nuts when I go there and keep seeing the same "updated" post!!

Not sure if this has happened to anyone else yet, but my computer was having some issues with the smiley popup window. I was doing a "go advanced" edit of a post, clicked on the "more" button to look for a "geek" smiley, and all of a sudden the computer just choked. Bits and pieces of the start menu appeared at the top of my window, part of each of the current windows I had open kept flashing off and on and there were no menus to click on, the whole screen was just a big mess. Ctrl/alt/del didn't help since the window kept going between parts of each programs window. The mouse was scarce to be found. Just to be sure, I tried it again to make sure it was the problem after my system had recovered and I had closed it. Sure enough, clicking on "more" for the smiley window killed the computer and I had to restart. Sounds like a scripting error that just threw the browser into chaos... That's IE for you. I'll see if FF does it too and post here if it does. System specs:
IE6/Win2000
Haven't had this problem on my newer computer...
Anyway, hopefully just a fluke.

Update: Nope, FF handles it fine. But I don't allow it to run all scripts. I switched all scripts on, and it was still fine. Looks like you've added some more smileys relatively recently.... Maybe IE6 just couldn't handle it....
