I will see about getting that ad removed. In the meantime if you refresh the page you should be presented with a new ad, and hopefully one that does not drop down.

I have one for you.. From work only (and no it's not blocked) I can't view pm's send pm's or use any function in the user cp. I was for a few weeks able to do that (around the time you added offers.com) Now a few days ago it started again. It happens in both IE and FF.
I know its not blocked cause anything thats blocked we get a msg on screen. Also if I click a PM to read it. The page never loads but if you go back to that pm it shows like its read even though I didn't read it. Does that make sense?

I am clueless on that one. I would have to think it has to do with settings on your work computer. The ad for offers.com is just a standard ad and would not interfear with a member being able to read PM's or use their CP.

I cannot get indexes. For example, from "Shoprite" if I select the cookie crumb "whatever we call Grocery Stores," nada. This originally started as a problem with the Moderator forums, which I've been having trouble with anyway, but now it's site-wide. If I click on the HCW logo, nada. If I click on "forums" from the primary gateway page, nada. Luckily, I had quite a bit in my subscriptions that I can still get around, but it's frustrating. Any suggestions? I use Firefox & recently upgraded to 5.0--anyone else having problems with the newer version?

What do you get when you click the HCW logo or "Forums" and are you clicking forums from the forum tab up top or ???

Nothing. Literally.
The tab reads "index.php (GIF Image, 1x1 pixels)" and the page is completely blank.
I just cleared the cache & cookies in case, but I'm still getting this problem. As I said, it's an old one (at least 6mos) in the moderator areas, but I just figured it was the added layer of security with the additional login & something quirky happened with my settings. But now it's site-wide & I need more brains than my own to figure out why.

Update: I googled the 'index.php' thing & the very first result was on a forum for my internet security (Kaspersky). It's got something to do with banner blocking & sure enough, HCW is on the blocked list. I'll figure it out on my end. Sorry to have troubled you! :smile:

Update #2:
Index issue fixed.
But just out of curiosity on what could be causing it: I cannot see any new posts in the Moderator Central forums index. For example, the new or updated posts number in Reported Posts will read "None." It says this for all of the forums. If I remember to go into the forum, I will see new posts & whatnot, but the index does not update to reflect them. I have cleared my cache & cookies, so that's not the issue. It's not the end of the world if it's never fixed, but as a quirk, it's an annoying one.
ETA: it actually reads like this:

Threads: 0
Posts: 0

Just so non-mods know what neglectarino is talking about, we have moderator only forums were we handled reported posts and other business. Not a secret, but it is there. Just our office backroom.
I am glad you were able to get the index thing fixed. I am not really sure about the new post thing in the forums. If you click the new post link in the top toolbar does that work for you? Does the forum remember you when you are logged in (via the remember me box when you log in?) I am just wondering if perhaps your machine is blocking the cookie for the site that controls the remembers features like read/unread posts etc...

yes to the new post link--and these new posts will show there. Just not in the CP nor on their index

I have favorite boards including this one and all day today I have had to give my screename and passward on all of them (even here) and I have the box checked that says remember me. My free avg did a scan today and it came back fine. What is going on? I have vista and I am using firefox.
I know I am not the only one as another trader on another board is having issues on two boards too, she is using IE.I am just wondering if its happening to anyone else here.

The search feature that comes with our software package that runs our forums, vbulletin, does not handled the volume of posts here at HCW very well. We are reaserching another search option and hope to have that resolved soon. I can see that there are new posts in a thread, but when I try to view them by going to the last page or poster the thread will start looping (refreshing itself) without the new posts. Any ideas?? TY!

My best guess is that this is a cookie related problem. You may try to re-set your cookie for the site by following these steps:
Log out of Hotcouponworld
Go into your internet settings and clear your cookies
Close your browser out completely
Open your browser back up and navigate back to hotcouponworld
Log in with your username and password and make sure to check off the box that says "Remember Me"
That should reset your cookie for the site and may resolve the issue you are having.

So your sister is entering new coupons into the coupon database and when she submits them they are not showing up? Can you give me an example of a coupon she recently tried entering and I can see if it is there. Also what username is she using so that I know if it was her submission.

She does it for me...on mine...she lives with us LOL...it's what free rent gets her.

I just entered some coupons and they showed up OK for me so I know it is not system wide...Could be that she clicked the wrong button or something...

I just checked and it is working OK for me.
Try refreshing the page a few time and if that does not seem to work try resetting your cookies for the site
Log out of Hotcouponworld
Go into your internet option and clear your cookies
Close your browser out (you may also want to restart your computer)
Open up your browser again
Navigate back to Hotcouponworld and log in
Make sure you check off the "Remember Me" box when logging in
The above steps will re-set your cookies for the site.
Let me know if you get it working or not.

You may want to try resetting your cookies and trying again. If that does not work let me know what browser and stuff you are using and I will see what I can find out.

The functionality is still there. Go into a members profile and click the "Statistics" tab there you will find something like this:
Find all posts by busyasabeecrg (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/search.php?do=finduser&u=285)
Find all threads started by busyasabeecrg (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/search.php?do=finduser&u=285&starteronly=1)

windows xp ff 3.6 ie 8.0
ok i left the window open in fire fox and it took 6min to open .... i walked away from ie window earlier and was gone for a long time and when i came back the data base out going trade window did open... but i dont know about you but i think that is waaaaay to long to wait... i always had to wait maybe a min.for it to fully load but never this long...

I'm having the same problem on my laptop that is running Windows 7. It works fine on my other computer.

Alrighty guys...our tech guys have not been able to replicate the issues that some are having with the database. They have tried on multiple browsers and versions and junk and are just not able to replicate the issue
So we have the following suggestion: Try clearing your cache and see if THAT helps and report back to me if that helps or not.
We are trying to figure out if this is a "us" issue (as in our server" or a "you" issue as in something happening on some computers. Because we have not been able to replicate it we are thinking it is a you issue and because it is only happening to a few folks that are are aware of.
That being said it could be a us issue too. We are set to upgrade our servers next week...
So bear with us we really are trying to figure it out.
If I could get you guys to clear your computers cache and report back that would be great. If it does not resolve the issue for you can you post your brower and opperating system info and maybe include how many coupons you have on your Have & Wish Lists to see if maybe it is happening to those that have a gob of matches???

well i cleared my cache too.. it still takes about 4-5 min to open ...did not used to take that long... i did not do any thing to pc lately at all..but oh well if its not every one then something slowed me way down! but it does open..i just have to go do something and come back.. but it does open eventually..thanks! for your concern..and looking into it...

Just out of curisoity how many coupons do you have on your have list? A whole lot or a just a few? We have been doing testing with just 2 coupons and I am now wondering if that might be the issue...the more potential matches the more time it is taking to load. I know that it takes a while for my Keep List to load (I don't have time to trade at this time), but it really depends on which computer I am on...on my notebook it is slow but on my big azzed desktop it is fast for my keep list to load and I have a lot of coupons on it.

Just so I understand the issue, you cannot see the statistics tab on your own profile? What tabs do you see? And can you see that tab on other members profiles. That is where you will find the "all posts by user" thing (as well as the drop down menu under posters username in a post)
Have you cleared your cache and cookies and let it sit a bit to fully load on the coupon database?
even if you let it sit 4-6 min? thats how long it takes for mine to pull up
I shouldn't take that long, that is a concern for sure. We are still looking into why it is taking that long to load for some of you guys.
I cleared my cache, and now I am able to see it. It does take about 60 seconds to pull up. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for letting me know. Our tech guys said that it is probably the cache thing.
We are also upgrading our server next week which may resolve the slow load time and we are hoping that it will fix this issue.

Hey everyone I just wanted to post an update on the coupon database and the load issues some members have been having with some of the trade tabs. Thanks to a kind member that allowed me to log into her account so I could see if the issue was an "our" issue or a "member" issue. I was able to get see that this issue is totally an HCW issue as it seems that the script that loads the page is timing out on tabs that have a lot of coupons on them (member I tested had 900+ coupons on her have list) thus her have list and outgoing trade tab were not loading at all or were loading slowly.
I have emailed out tech database guy and he is on the task right now to get this issue fixed. He will probably be adding in pagination (so that instead of one page with ALL your coupon entries on it there will be multiple pages) which should increase all the page to load faster and the script will not time out on loading.
That being said our estimate is that this is going to take about 1 week to get fixed. Our database tech guy is having to work on a previous guys work and so he has to familiarize himself with the code. He has been working on a NEW version of the coupon database which is a while out from being done.
So...please bear with us on the database load time. There is not a whole lot that we can do to get this resolved faster but we are working on it. Make sure that you click the link to get your have list and wish lists posted in the forums so that you can still trade the old fashioned way (by PM)

Yes, this is a major problem for me. The box does not even let my cursor go there. And keywords brings up nothing when I put a username in it.
My box has been running full or close to full...some traders are sending as many as a dozen messages and not linking them so each pm has no history on it. Searching for them in amongst the many pms I get each day is very time consuming and I'm falling behind in getting trades out! I have 12 to do today or I will be sending apology messages to most of them.
Also can't use the outgoing database...this is the message I got a few minutes ago No coupons found - try broadening your search criteria. At this point I'm not complaining that it will load slow, LOL,
I just want to see it!!

We are still working on the slow database load thing. You will get the message that there are no coupons found until the page loads. Which is not doing for some of you guys. Our database guy really is working on trying to figure it out and get it to work. Hopefully by early next week. (crossing fingers)
For those that are having issues on searching PM's by username could you please let me know what browser & version and operating system & version you are using so that I can let our other tech guy know about the issue.

for what its worth...I can't 'click' by mouse into the search by user name box...but...if I start with curser in the keywords box...i can then tab to the search by user name and it works...just saw this post (who knows how I actually found it lol) so thought i'd check...

Again...we are working on the incomming and outgoing trades tabs. These are not working if you have a lot of coupons on either your have or wishlists. We should have a fix for this soon.

Hey guys...anyone that was having issues not being able to search their private messages by username. Our guy is reporting that it was an issue with IE and that it should now be fixed. Can I get some folks to test and report back to me please if it is indeed working now. Guys...we are at the mercy of our tech guy on the database fix. I don't know how to fix it and it has been an issue for our guy to get it fixed because he was not the original coder so he had to learn the other guys code to figure out how it all works. I think we are going to have something here soon with it at least that is what our guy is saying.

All fixed now...
I did not remove any posts from trains....and new posts is not effected by how many posts per page the forum is set at. That has to do with your cookie settings. If you recently logged out of HCW, it would remove the cookie, thus will not hold your what you have read/have not read information.

Did you check page 2 for the threads, the threads did not go anywhere, I swear...just fewer per page, then you have to go to the next page of posts.
I think 50 is better and should increase page load time for some. I had set it to 100 when I had to move lots of posts around one time, and forgot to put it back to a smaller number.

For me It's not letting me into the grocery store forums...I figured out that if you go to the last post in those forums that shows up on the front page. Go into that post and then go up to the top into the navigation bar that shows where you are at and click on the forum and then you can get access to the ones that you aren't able to from there. HTH

i found a fix for me! if i have the options to view 40 postsper page i get the error and blank pages on some of the threads... did the same on 30 but i reset it to 20 and now i can view those same threads that gave me the error messages... and just to check i went back and reset it to 40 and could not view the threads i just previously viewed.... i have always had it set on 40 ..... so maybe this will help some others also...

I just tried clicking on the "Auctions" link and my screen went red and our virus protection said:

I've had this problem as well. I found that if the thread has more than one page then it won't load the first page. It's just a white screen. This happens with ANY thread with more than one page. I went to my settings and saw that I had it set for the maximum amount (40 posts per page). I tried 30 per page and it didn't work either, so I changed it to "Forum Default" and the pages are loading now. I prefer to have the maximum amount, but I'll leave it for now until the glitches are worked out. I did see a post where HCW changed the number of posts per thread, so I think this could be related to the problem. Changing your settings to "Forum Default" is a simple solution for now though. Hopefully this will be fixed soon!

I reset to forum default for posts per page, so I've been able to get into some threads I couldn't, but I still had to go through my profile. It still loads a blank page for some of the forums and subforums.

For grocery stores there are 2 other ways you can wiggle around this until its fixed. if you subscribe to the forum, just click user cp. your subscribed forum will be there so you can just click in.

Yes, I see two threads in here for reporting board problems and a thread about the strange HTTP messages. But...I can't open them to post there. LOL I am able to open about half of the threads I try to open and I get the strange message on the other half. I've tried going into the threads through the forums and through the new posts page and can't open them no matter what I do. I would post this in the established threads concerning problems people are having if I could open them.

This is being worked on but right now there is a possible solution. Go to user PC, click edit options and look under your post to show per page options. Make sure it is set to default. This is helping some users that are having problems.

I don't know what number I'm set at. I couldn't get into this thread yeaterday. lol There was another couple threads I couldn't access today, but don't recall which ones they were. So I'm still getting it. My Avast has also alerted me a couple times to a trojan virus....something about a google ad, but I didn't write it down, so don't remember what it was either. The site has also been very slow loading for me. I'll go check my thread count...it's probably the higher count.

I am still having the issue. If I try to click on the grocery forums link, the link goes to a blank page. No errors, just a blank page. It's been happening for a few days now.
This also happens when I use the search function- if the phrase i am searching for isn't there, the page just goes blank (this has been happening for weeks). It doesn't say, "no matches found" or whatever, it just goes blank.

Ok, I haven't seen any posts on this in a few days. Heidi and I personally haven't come across this error and we're relying on you guys to let us know where things are at with this.
Mark's been going through the server error logs and he hasn't seen any errors in the past 24 hours. Are people still getting the 500 error message?
We've got an appt. on Monday morning with the server folks to talk about the configuration and this issue so any additional feedback and screenshots would be helpful.

What page are you getting that on? That's really odd - there's no reason that should be serving up like that....I was clicking on my usercp tab and it kept cycling me to that page. After it did it a bunch of times, I finally logged off for awhile and when I came back online, it was gone. The last time I had that problem, it was a problem that multiple users here experienced and if I remember correctly, was an ad content issue that your guy fixed.
All seems well today, so I guess I am good to go. :biggrin:

If the ad is blocking the search button at the top, you can scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and under the Forum Navigation, the 3rd option from the bottom is Search.

Coupon database updating problem - I was adding stuff to my Have list and then when I went to click on Update, it said that due to an internal error, my request could not be processed. Thankfully I had only added 9 coupons and had saved my other requests prior to this happening.

Kris, this could be due to heavy use in the database. Were the 9 coupons you added to your Have List not added or did the error message just happen when you were trying to update your list and post it in the forums? If so you should try updating again and see if it will go though.

I figured it out. It's the Capella ads. My antivirus apparently dislikes them. I noticed them on another site and my antivirus went nuts then, too. Working on going ad free.

It is a fine balancing act between generating revenue so that we can build tools and features for our members, pay our server costs, afford our legal fees when issues come up and making our members happy. So yes the ads are here to stay. Unlike many other websites however we do offer our members the option to pay a small yearly fee of $10.00 (which is about $0.03 a day) to remove the ads. Our goal is not to annoy our members, and we have been spending the past week tweaking placements and settings behind the scenes to try to make sure the ads do not block features like the search and quick links and search in the coupon database and notifications etc. However this site is a business and as such, we have to generate income to keep it going. Our server payments are about double what my house payment is a month alone, we just spent 6 months fighting (and won) a legal battle that costs us an arm and a leg to prove that we were not infringing on some other companies trademark.

I forgot to update this thread, but we have had to switch the database back to the version before today's "fix" there were unexpected bugs and we are working on getting those resolved if we can. At the moment however we had to take into account how many folks it was effecting and the ability to not be able to add coupons to your have/wish/keep list and edit the quantity of the coupons you do have on those lists would have effected more traders than the handful that are having issues with the incoming and outgoing trade tabs loading. My apologies to everyone, please know that we are actively trying to get things fixed for everyone.

They are still there....for most people however I needed to get my mind off of some stuff last night and gave a few members a free lifetime no ad subscription. I am not going to do that for everyone but you are one of about 20 folks.

Coupon Database - Changes - Please read if you are a Hotcouponworld Trader
We have made some minor changes to the way the various trading tabs work in the coupon database. These changes were made because the database was making too many queries to our server and often timing out for many members that had multiple (500 +) items on either their keep, wish, have lists in the database.
The changes are:
Added pagination (paging to the Have List, Keep List, Wish List, and Incoming and Outgoing trades tabs. The default view is to show 10 results per page, however you have the option to change page to display 10, 25, 50 or 100 results per page. The higher number that you select the longer it will take to load the page.
Default sort view on the Have/Keep/Wish tabs is now alphabetical (a-z), however you can sort the columns however you need to to display what you are looking for in those tabs.
We have done extensive testing on all the various features of the coupon database and everything appears to be working correctly. We have fixed all known bugs that were reported to us last week. However as members use the coupon database they may find a bug. Please report any bugs to me via Private Message or Email (heidi @ Hotcouponworld.com) *without the spaces*. Do not report bugs in the forums.
Thank you for your patience and I hope that the new changes will help ensure that all our traders are able to use the coupon database for trading once again.

It drives me crazy too.. Sometimes the just expand with out my mouse being near it.. Like just now.
I am not sure why but this site is so slow for me.. It takes forever for each page to load i cant do anything on here and can only be here for short times.. i dont have the patience for the slow loading pages. And it is every page. Not sure if it is what browser i use or what but this is the only site i have this issue with..

Also, how can I change the list back to ending by date instead of alphabetical order? (how it used to be) Only allows you to do this when in search but I want my have, wishlists and incoming/outgoing trades this way to. I don't see how to do this.

oh and thanks to heidi or julie, i forget which one emailed me... you can click on the top of the columns to change the order... want the recent dates click on that column at top... its pretty neat
I have problems deleting also...but i close down , reopen window, and sort them by different options and keep only 10 on a page say i wanted to delete one bogo..so i click at top of the column that has b1g1 in it and bring up all the bogos then i can go page by page and find it and delete... or if its a 2.00 mfc i sort by price then keep going till i find it.. and sometimes by then i can delete..but not always... i do find keeping it to just 10 lines per view works best..but it makes it a slooooow process... i can adjust quantities with no problem all in all it is getting better.. for me any way!:whistle67:

Is the delete option not working depending on how you have your list sorted? I am trying to replicate this but that means I have to add stuff I don't have to my have list. Any insight anyone could give me on how you have stuff sorted and if that is effecting how you can/cannot delete items?
I just deleted stuff off my Keep List and it worked ok for me.
And I know that this sounds like a broken record at times but out tech guy said that you may want to try clearing cookies and cache and see if that resolves it. It has worked for a few of the folks that emailed me about not being able to delete.
I will send an email to Mark about the emails...not sure on that one.

Yeah that is what I am hearing via PM and Email..I am trying to replicate the issue by narrowing it down to maybe a specific browser or version and so far no luck. If those that cannot delete items from your lists could tell me the following please:
Have you logged off Hotcouponworld, cleared your cache and cookies off your computer, restarted your computer, logged back in and checked "remember me" when logging in? - Yes/No
What version of Windows are you using? Vista, XP, etc...
What browser and version are you using? IE 8, IE 7, FireFox 3.0, Chrome 4.1.249.1059, etc?
If anyone needs help figuring out this information or how to do any of this please let me know and I can walk you through it or help you figure out what version of stuff you are using.

ok i just deleted several that expire on 5/15-5-21 all on first page...but when i had to keep going into my list by 35 or so pages by the time i found one i traded, it would not let me delete it! i am using windows xp. ie 8.06 all updated, or firefox 3.6.3 all updated/ ff seems a bit faster for me on hcw..

no i did not clear cache if it let me delete say aprox 10 items and i go to the page to find another one i traded and it wont let me delete that.doing this all in the same session . i would have to go through all those pages to get back there to try to delete it again.. my browsers are set to clear when i close them.. but i cant see closing down and going through all that to find that item again which i have done mind you... but its too time consuming and wont always work either.. i just plod along eventually i get what i want deleted.. but it is a lot of time.. and that is something i have a lot of..unlike many of you here... yourself included.. but all is good... we will get this worked out too! had to just pitch in my .10 .... :giggle2:

I am really dumbfounded at what the issue is as I cannot replicate it at all on my computer. I will wait to hear from a few more folks about the last post and then I will try some more if I can figure out what is going on.

I am hoping we can figure it out...really I am. I hate knowing that folks are having an issue with it....if it gets to be too much try clearing your cache and stuff. Our database guy said that is the main hang up that he expects folks to have.

Some websites also use Super Caching set up to help optimize the browsing experience of the website. So you want to delete this stored version of the page from time to time, expecially when new features are rolled out because some of the old features may be stored on your computer and be loaded instead of the new stuff...

My havelist is listed a-z and displays 10 per page. The one that I have been trying to delete is on the last page of my havelist and nothing on that page will delete. :shrug7:

Hey everyone we have resolved the bug fix for deleting items from your lists. This should now be working again. If it is not please clear your cache.
However we are still working on the "Check All" option for members lists. So until we have this bug issue fixed you will have to check items off one at a time.

Threads and posts aren't showing up right. Words are missing. As I type this out, it is doing it. Part of what I type is hidden, even if I try to change the font color back to black. It is doing it all over the board.

I just wanted to update. my original post. i have switched browsers and this site now runs so fast and smooth for me.. And those annoying roll over ads are gone.. yahoo to Firefox..

Mods, please move if this is not the proper forum for this question. I searched and couldn't seem to find an appropriate place to post questions about the site.
My question regards the Coupon Database, and problems I'm experiencing using it. First of all, there seems to be an extremely slow load time for the entire site, not just the database. 15 seconds plus for each page or post to load. This makes using the forums impossible, because I don't have the time or patience to wait for posts to load like that simply to read them, but also it is affecting database function, more so now that you've got to go through so many extra clicks to get it usable (to sort to more than 10 per page, sort by exp date, etc) because the defaults are not logical, at least for my use.
Today's problem is more than the lag though. The database, after finally yielding my search list, for example "Planters" will show me the list of Planters coupons only for a few seconds and then automatically jumps back to the first page of the database. Not enough time to read or look, and then you have to repeat the search, wait for another lag, then try and be quick and read another line or two before it bounces back again.
So just some feedback to let TPTB know how frustrating it has become to attempt to use the database here. I am hardly using it anymore because of the lag and inconvenience of the new extra sorting required, and if today's issue is another new "feature", I won't be able to use it at all.
