We took the site down tonight to do an upgrade to the newest version of Vbulletin. And the result is that there are lots more user tools, and truthfully, I don't know how to get them all used yet.

But, here's a quick run down on some of the new features....

Tags - At the end of each post you make, you can tag your posts. By tagging your posts, you'll make it easier for everyone to search for the things you've written here. Taggins is easy and it takes just a few extra seconds before you hit "send" on a post.

So for example, if you were posting a deal for BBQ sauce at CVS, your tags would look something like this:

CVS, Kraft, BBQ Sauce, 3 for $1.00, CVS coupon, Kraft coupon (and anything else that would help you better search for this post again later).

It's important to use commas between tag keywords.

Social Networking - Here you can do the long awaited groups (so set up groups for your area or set up groups by store type, hobbies, number of kids, etc - groups can be for any topic). There's also a picture gallery, you can invite friends onto your page, similar to a Myspace type setup, and more. You can also leave messages for folks on their profile page like you would in Myspace or Facebook.

And then there's a few other things the new features do, but again, honestly, I haven't figured them all out myself, but I would encourage you all to get in there and play with the new usertools and try them on.

This new upgrade is setting the stage for our next wave of change, coming soon.

One question though, is there any way to have a threaded conversation in a group? It appears that all the messages are just going to go in order. (Similar to a Facebook or Myspace wall). It doesn't look like you can reply to someone message. Is this really the case? I think it'd be nice to be able to have many different conversations threaded in a group. Maybe I'm missing something??

I think it would be great to have threaded convo's as well. Although at this time I think that is not an option. Perhaps there is a way for us to figure that out in the future.

Now we do need members patience while we really get the hang of the new features and write up new FAQ's on how to use them. So if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Your questions will help us write up our FAQ's and get explanations out there for newbies.

i do the same thing so I have been going crazy all day. In their profile there should be some tabs above the box where you can type a message. One of those tabs is "About Me" and if you click that you can see all that stuff. I was not able to see these tabs using Internet Explorer. I had to switch to Firefox to see them. (Took me all day to figure that out). HTH

I don't want to feel the need to say hello to everyone I check out the profile of as they would see I've been there. Hope this makes sense.

Okay, this sounds cool. I had a myspace page last year and it drove me crazy with all these invites and request from people I didn't know and had nothing in common with. Yes I believe it does. I was playin with it today and when I clicked on there it showed I had visited that particular person. I myself don't like that either.

And I don't think the recent visit thing can be disabled for one person, it would have to be disabled across the board.

Why was it enabled in the first place? Not saying that I really care, but it is kinda creepy knowing that others have viewed me and I them. Yeah yeah I am also in with the silent lurkers that check out what state a poster is from, when they are posting a good deal that I am interested in. Knowing that a poster is in my area/state/region makes a deal more believable and thus decreases the odds of it working/not working. Does that make sense? :smile: Oh and I thought I was going nuts here. Glad I found this post. :giggle2:

It was just part of the site upgrade. People view each other's profiles all the time, the itrader, etc. I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in it.

The worst part is I'm now checking out the profiles of random people that are checking my profile and wondering why they checked my profile, when they probably checked for the same reason I check profiles--to find out what state they're from. I could waste a lot of time doing this. I'll never get to my couponing. :giggle2: I would really love it if this feature could be disabled. Now I feel the need to :shock:at my profile to see who is looking at me and leaving me messages. I know it's all new and I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it's overwhelming right now...:hectic1:

If you go to the person's profile, and look close by where it says Visitor Messages, the about me tab is right there - next to the messages tab. HTH

You can actually do a "Search" in the members list. So, you don't have to manually search. On the far right, you can click "Search Members."

Sorry I don't have any idea why you can't see the About Me tab.

When you click on View Public Profile, you should see a large tab first for Visitor's Messages, then the next one to the right of it is the About Me tab. HTH.
You can still send a PM directly by just clicking on the username and just choosing the send a private message option.

Don't feel bad ladies and gents. Some of us mods can't see it either and it's really a pain when some of the valuable info is missing for us. But I do think that it sounded like certain web browsers didn't work and certain ones did. I'm sure that it'll get fixed if we all just have a little patience.

In the meantime, go make a social group for your area, and meet some new people! Why not!? Sounds like fun and I am not a Myspace/Facebook person myself!

I'm not sure why it would be a problem to show that you visited somones profile. It's not a big deal to see that hey "so and so looked at my profile"

Anyways the tabs issue...it looks like the problem is with the CCS (cascading style sheets) that create the tabs in the new software and some browsers not showing them or something like that. Because I checked every setting I could to see if it was somehow turned off for certain members or what and could not find anything.

That being said the new design will fix this problem so until the 10th we will have to muddle through without the tabs for now.

In the meantime you can SEARCH the member list to find out what state a certain member is in. (go to the members list and scroll all the way over to the right and there you will see a search members list tab, click it and enter the username of the person. If you want to search for members in your state then click the advanced search and choose state.)

I'm having a problem with the position of the "tags". When they appear (they aren't on all pages) the tags make the page a little bit wider than my screen. This puts the tags right under the right side scroll bar. So if I miscalculate just a bit when scrolling down, I get a surprise from whatever tag I clicked.
This page (the announcements thread) doesn't have the tags, so there is a nice border at the edge so nothing happens if I miss the scroll bar. That would be my preference for all the pages.

Nope - right now there aren't any presets - everyone just sort of gets to play with them. I am terrible at that kind of thing anyway personally. That said, maybe we'll get someone who's good who can customize a few and then post the color code sets that they used. But really the goal with those is to just let people personalize them however they want.
