In my CP it tells me how many points that I have. What are these points and what are they for?
BRIANNE161

They are reputation points.People give them to you by using the scales in the right corner of your posts.Usually for giving good tips or being helpful.

They are also related to the little green boxes under your post count on your threads. I'm not sure of how many points it takes for each box though.

I am confused.
I have 2 reputations in my USER CP info.. and one person left a comment. How do you do this and what does it mean?
mama22qts
06-28-2008, 01:32:41 AM
Honestly, it doesn't really mean much. There isn't a heirarchy here based on reputation. It's just a fun thing we have to let one another know that we appreciate them.
There are a set of scales in the upper right corner of your post box. If you click on someone's post on the scales, it will bring up a reputation window where you can enter comments and either I approve or I disapprove.
HTH!

ahhh ok.. so why does one of my "reps" have points???
mama22qts
06-28-2008, 02:16:53 AM
Each rep is assigned a point value. Reps from mods and supermods carry more points than reps from members. The more points you have, the more pips you'll have under your post count.

Ever see the improv game show "Whose Line is it Anyway?" I kinda think of reputation points as the same thing as when Drew Carey says "The points don't matter," which is his humorous way of saying it's all for fun and laughs.
People here always make me smile with their rep comments on my posts. It's a good way to cheer someone up when they have a bad day or to cheer them on when they have a great transaction. Most of all, it's a way to thank people when they help you out, make you laugh or make your day by telling you about an awesome sale.

FAQ says:
Users may give 10 reputation clicks per 24 hour period. (Administrators are exempt from this, and may give as many as they wish)
You must give reputation to 10 different members before you can rep. the same person again.

:wavehi: Hi, Jan! Welcome to HCW! See the little scales beside the little person icon under your name beside your post? Click on there to rep someone. I rep someone when I find the post helpful. But I, too, would like to know how we check who or why we got rep'd and what the number of reps matter. Is there a place on here to check out info on repping? I am repping you because I am glad you started this post so I can learn more about repping! :BigHand:

To check the commets, click on your User CP, its on the very left of the orange bar.
Its nothing major, no contest or anything. Just a way to show your appreciation if you find a post helpful. I don't always post Thank You, esp if its been said 100 times, so repping is just as good!

Thanks for solving that mystery!
This new method is very nonintuitive. The menu that pops up when you right-click is the normal popup menu that your browser shows when you right-click on a link (in other words, not HCW site specific).
I think that many people won't know how to or won't bother to give reps now. Any chance that it will be changed to something easier?

Looks like left-click works using Internet Explorer, but not Firefox.
In FF when I left-click on any but the last post, the pop-up looks like this:
1985
(click for larger image)
The box doesn't let you type anything.
On the last post, or with IE, the pop-up looks like what we've seen before:

What do the little square boxes next to the rep's mean? I see green and a few blues?
How do I view the reputation of others?
To view the reputation of others you will see what are called "pips". Pips are small green or red boxes under a member join date on each thread. They look like THIS (http://hotcouponworld.com/forums/images/reputation/reputation_highpos.gif).
The higher one's reputation score is the more pips they will have.
When you hover your mouse over a members pips you will see thier reputation level.
What are the reputation levels?
The reputation levels and points necessary are as follows:
User is infamous around these parts / -99999 Points
User can only hope to improve / -50 Points
User has a little shameless behaviour in the past / -10 Points
User is an unknown quantity at this point / 0 Points
User is on a distinguished road / 10 Points
User will become famous soon enough / 50 Points
User has a spectacular aura about / 150 Points
User is a jewel in the rough / 250 Points
User is just really nice / 350 Points
User is a glorious beacon of light / 450 Points
User is a name known to all / 550 Points
User is a splendid one to behold / 650 Points
User has much to be proud of / 1000 Points
User has a brilliant future / 1500 Points
User has a reputation beyond repute / 2000 Points
Hot Coupon World may add more levels to our reputation system in the future. If so we will update this FAQ.
How do I view the reputation and comments left for my by other users?
To view the reputation that others have left for you as well as thier comments you will go to your USERCP (http://hotcouponworld.com/forums/usercp.php)(User Control Panel)
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see a table entitled " Latest Reputation Received"
Here you will find up to 50 of the latest reputations given to you as well as a link to the thread that was repped, the date and time the reputation was left, who gave you reputation, and any additional comments the user has for you.
A green pip means that the reputation was positive and a red pip means that it was a negative.
What do the colors mean?
When reputation is given to a member you are given what is called a "pip". Pips can be one of three colors, the colors and corresponding meaning are as follows:
Red - Negative, this usually means that someone disagrees or disapproves a post or comment.
Green - Positive, someone has found this post good, informative, or just cool.
Grey - Neutral, the person who gave this rep is too new or has low reputation power due to having few reputations themselves. The rep. still shows but does not count as a positive or negative towards the overall score.
Remember! - Reputation has NO value, it is just a way for members to let other members know that a post was helpful, a way to say thanks for the information, or in some cases to let a member know that you thought thier post was bad, negative, or inappropriate.
This info and more are in this link Reputation help (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/688185-post18.html) I hope this helps,
The blue pips are probably from newbies who haven't acquired a higher value rep points, yet. Depending on your color settings they may be grey, blue or even purple.

Just curious I recently received reps from a lot of posters with under <25 posts and I understand that you do not get any rep points for those.
My question is: when those posters reach the 25 post mark do the people that they repped when they had under 25 get the reps they are entitled to?
Thanks

No. Reps are reps. Those reps will jsut count as neutral for forever.

BarPar596
10-19-2008, 06:55:17 PM
TY for your reply but does that seem fair? You get points for everyone else's reps. Plus getting bonus points for reps by mods. This leads me to believe reps are good to have.
Basically reps from posters <25 mean absolutely nothing to your reputation?
Now if you were a new HCW member (<25 posts) and you repped someone and they did not get credit can there be some sort of notification to go back and "re-rep" that person so that they will get credit this time? or once the new member has reached "25 posts" all their reps turn green?
Does anyone go back and contact the neutral rep posters and request them to "re-rep"?
Also is there a list of reps given out like there is reps received? Id like to know who I repped (LOL I think I owe someone :wink7:)
mama22qts
10-19-2008, 07:03:32 PM
No, no one does any of that stuff you asked about. Reps are NOT IMPORTANT here at HCW. We don't care about them! They carry no weight here. Mods carry more weight because that's how the rep system was written. We didn't write it -- it came with the programming we have.
No, there's no list of reps given out, and you are the only one besides supermods who can see what reps you have received.
It's just not that important here.

And you rep someone by clicking on the legal scales in a post.

queenofthehivemomof5
10-19-2008, 07:35:10 PM
Reps have zero importance at HCW. It is just a way to let others agree or disagree with your post or to say thanks or no thanks. That is it really.
You do not get bonus points from a mod, mods just have more rep power because they have been repped more often, usually have more post count, that sort of thing.
The only people that have anything special as far as reps go are admin :wink7:, and we the only thing we can do that other members cannot do is rep the same person more than once and we have no limits on how many people we can rep.

I had a lady just send me a private message and she said she accidentally pushed the dissaproval rep when she tried to rep me. Can I or she change that, or is it not a big deal to let it be??
druidessemily
10-20-2008, 03:39:52 AM
I'm not sure if a mod can change it.
In the grand scheme of things, reps don't matter very much. Only you (and the mods I think?) will be able to see your individual reps. Everyone else just sees a number. There are some people on here who ask for only negative reps. ;)

Yep, the reps are really just for fun. They don't have anything to do with trader ratings, etc. It was nice of whoever it was to let you know that it was an accident, though!

Like lovelace said, it's about how many good post and deals you put out there that people will rep you on it. You can see who repped you in the "user cp" tab. It's fun to read these once people start repping you.

If you are using firefox this happens I think. It does to me. Right click the little scale to give rep and click "open in new tab or new window" and then you can give rep. I don't know why it has to be done that way but it does work for me most of the time.

I am new here and this may sound silly, but what are those little green squares below our names?
SchwoomsMom
11-20-2008, 11:50:46 AM
The little green squares are your "repped" power.
When someone likes what you said, they can click on the "scales" in the bottom left of your post, and can "rep" you. It's just a way for someone to thank you for your post, or agree with you, or just say "I like it"
If you click on your "usercp" you can scroll down, and you will see the rep's you got, who they came from, and the post you left that got them.
This is different from the iTrader, which is what you use to leave feedback for a trade.
You don't leave a "rep" for a trade, nor do you leave a feedback for a good post :)
Hope this helped. If it did, feel free to rep me!!! LOL
If you have more questions, feel free to ask them. I'm sick, and it's nearly 3am, I'm sleepy too...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong:
Each user can give out 10 reps per day.
I think that the more reps a user has gotten, then the more "power" the reps that they give have.

I think you are correct. It is just a number but it is your reputation. So when someone is helpful to you, click on the scale and let others you know you approve. Green means people approve and red means they don't. There is a nice description of this under FAQ.

I don't know if a person's rep's give them more "power"... I know that newbies (don't know what the threshold is) rep's don't 'count' towards your total.
I also know that moderators and admin's rep's have a higher "power" than the rest of us.
HTH
BTW, thanks for all the reps!!!! Lol

The more reps you get the more power get.
If on the front page look under the user cp thing to the right, where it shows your avatar. On the reps there it shows how much power you have. Anytime you get more reps that number goes up.

What do you mean by "power"???
Someone who is new or without a lot of reps, when they rep you their rep power is so low it will only count as a grey dot on your user cp list, meaning the rep is neutral.
Someone who has a bit of reps, but they're rep bar under their name isn't as long as others, will give like 1 point in power where it says rep power:xxx to the right over the green rep bar in the white area, above your buddy list.
Now if someone like cuzisaidso gave you reps, you would get a bunch of points because she has the most rep out of anyone on the board. (You can find out this information by going to the bottom of the screen, clicking memberlist, and then clicking on the reputation tab on the list there)

Today I click on the button user CP (upper left hand corner) and I saw that people left comments for me! I got repped (not sure what that is). I never knew I could do this. I would like to rep others but not sure how and how to do it consistently. I am looking for any pages that would guide me through the many aspects of HCW. I know how to find the rules, and have been reading them as I go along, but I am lost as to find anything else. I feel like a kid in a candy store. Yep, definitely start with the FAQ stickies. They explain a lot.
Repping is the HCW of giving another user a little pat on the back. You can rep someone by clicking on the little scales icon that appears under their name next to the little box with the picture of the person that says if they are online or not. Your "amount" of reps you have corresponds with the little green boxes that appear under your join date and the number of posts you have made. If you put your mouse over those green boxes, you will see what rep level someone is at. So like, someone like me who has been here for awhile has a lot of reps and a lot of green boxes. But newer folks have fewer reps and fewer boxes.
The reps have no "value" except that it's a way for members to reward each other for helping out and a way to guage how experienced someone is who may be giving advice. HTH!

Hi and welcome to HCW.
Reps are your reputation. If you click on the tab FAQ just above towards the right, it has the 'complete' answer to your question. Once you click the link, scroll down until you see your question.
Short answer is...your reputation.
You can't rep someone again and again. You need to spread the love first. If I rep your post, I must then rep other people first before I can rep you again.
Hope this helps some. The full answer can be found in the FAQ section. P

What do you have to do to earn Reps?
queenofthehivemomof5
02-21-2009, 07:17:02 PM
From our FAQ's (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/frequently-asked-questions/214988-earning-reps.html):
Q: What Is Reputation (Reps)?
The reputation system is a fun way to let someone know what you think of their post. All registered members can give and receive reps.
How do I leave reputation for others?
To leave reputation for other members you will see a icon attached to each post that looks like this: THIS (http://hotcouponworld.com/forums/images/buttons/reputation.gif)
When you click on the scales icon a pop up box will appear for you to leave reputation for the post. You can either approve or disapprove of this post and leave a comment for the post as well.
Once you have filled out the reputation box click the button "Add to reputation"
What other things should I know about the reputation system?
Upon registration all new users start out with 10 reputation points.
If a member has less than -9999 reputation points thier reputation level is "Off the Scale".
Reputation left by a administrator is worth 10 reputation points.
For every 10 days a member is registered, users gain 1 point of reputation altering power.
For every 100 posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
For every 200 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
A user must have 5 posts in order for thier reputation hits to count on others.
Users may give 10 reputation clicks per 24 hour period. (Administrators are exempt from this, and may give as many as they wish)
You must give reputation to 10 different members before you can rep. the same person again.
Reputation is not to be confused with feedback. If you have traded with someone and wish to leave them feedback please use the itrader rating system to leave appropriate feedback.
There is no way for members to view the reputation that they have left for other members.
In a nutshell, if a member thinks your post is good (or bad), they have the option to "rep" you.

Rep, reping or sending reps, is normally what someone might post if they are adding to your reputation on the board. If you were to say be helpful to another member who maybe asked a question, or if you posting information someone felt was very helpful then they would say something like "sending reps", then they would go down to the little white scales that you see on the users post, http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/images_hcw/buttons/reputation.gif (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/reputation.php?p=1633434) <-looks like this, and you click on it, it will ask you "what do you think of babyblissproducts post?" it will give you two options "i approve" or "i dishapprove" you click on either one of those and then you can also leave a comment. You can view your rep score or points buy click on usercp at the top of website in the orange toolbar, in there you can see who has sent you reps and their comments, also your rep score, it reads under the title "latest reputation received" and it gives you who sent you the reps, what thread it was under and any comments they left. Its a real nice way of leaving positive feedback for those members that are always so helful. Its a nice way to be greatful for their time and efforts In my opinion :) You can also earn reps by how many posts you have done. I hope this helps answers your question.

I've been sometimes having that problem too, using Firefox 3.0.8.
As a workaround, you can right-click on the reps icon and choose "Open Link in New Tab".

How do I give reps to someone without clicking on a specific post?

I know how to give Itrader feedback and read the feedback left for me.
I have seen, received and know that you can and receive reputation. I have looked in my profile and my CP to where I can see comments and reps given, but how do I give someone else a good rep point?
What is the most important criteria that HCWers use in classifying member and their trustworthiness, knowledge, helpfulness(reps or feedback)? Which is better have a lot of reps or having 100% Itrader feedback?

To give a rep you click the scale icon on the bottom left of their post and type a message. I feel like reps are important, but feedback is alot better:) I enjoy getting feedback as I take the time to leave it for others. It lets people know if you are a good trader or not. As long as it's good feedback of course, lol. I take trading seriously.

I've been trying to find out what the reps have said. I looked at the directions:
To view the reputation that others have left for you as well as thier comments you will go to your USERCP (http://hotcouponworld.com/forums/usercp.php)(User Control Panel)
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see a table entitled " Latest Reputation Received"
Here you will find up to 50 of the latest reputations given to you as well as a link to the thread that was repped, the date and time the reputation was left, who gave you reputation, and any additional comments the user has for you.
However, I can't seem to find the table. Any ideas what it looks like and where to find it? Thanks much

Hi
Hopefully somebody can answer this so I am clear on this.
I posted a thread and had 1985 views however not one rep given. I do know that in the past when I have posted a thread i have been told that I have given too much rep out to you so cant rep...
How often can we rep people for their good tips or deals per week...
Can someone post me to where this is written please so I better understand it? As it is disheartening when I type up a lot of information for the weeks deal and no reps given...
Also maybe info on my rep power etc would be useful.
I hope I posted in the right thread...
Thanks:wavehi:

so if off to the side of latest reputation received - you have a negative number... is that a bad sign?

So, yesterday I had 187 rep points or whatever, and today I have 188, but no new rep comments. I've seen this happen before. How did I get rep if no one repped me? Do I get more rep every certain number of days?
It doesn't really matter to me, but it's just weird seeing my numbers change every few weeks, lol.

What other things should I know about the reputation system?
Upon registration all new users start out with 10 reputation points.
If a member has less than -9999 reputation points their reputation level is "Off the Scale".
A user must have 5 posts in order for their reputation hits to count on others.

Since the site was updated, what happened to where it said what your rep power is? It used to be on the top right side of the screen but now I don't see it anywhere. I do see where it tells you your total rep points but I don't see the rep power. Not really sure what your rep power means either. Thanks for any info on this!

hover your cursor over the pips under your username in one of your posts and it will say what your rep power is. For what it means please see the FAQ post that has been posted multiple times in this thread.
Also the UserCP is at the top of the page in the orange tool bar...there might be more info about your reps there...

Thanks for responding Heidi. I do know about the regular points in the User Cp and what they mean and understand about the conversion. I looked through this entire thread and didn't see an answer to my question. The number I was talking about said "Rep power 77"" and it was in the upper right part of screen I believe above your buddy list. This number changes as you are are repped I guess. I have over 7100 rep points which is a different number then this one. I guess I was wondering what that 77 number meant and why it isn't shown anymore. Thanks!

It's not shown anymore because we decided to get rid of the user CP box to help with page load time. I will see what I can find out about the rep power number....

Is that why I can no longer see/find my "reps"? I like to send thank you notes/pm's for rep's, but can't find where it went..

You should be able to go under your User CP and scroll to the bottom and it will tell you what your reps say/who gave them to you so you can send thank you's out.

:wavehi: The green bubbles or "reputation" can be added by clicking on the icon that looks like a pair of scales under the person's picture. Since I am still "wet behind the ears" I just figured this out and thought I would share with other newbies.
