View Full Version : Kroger (Delta) ~ Question Kroger Chain Stores:right price guarantee?

I have a question about Krogers in general. Is it corporate policy for them to give you an item free if it scans incorrectly? I just moved from Memphis and all of the stores there did that (when you asked). In my new town (in MS) the lady looked at me as if I was crazy when I requested it and said that they would only adjust it to the right price. Just wondering if anybody else knows about this.

My stores have the guarantee. I've used it a couple times. I'm in Virginia.

You might want to drop a line to corporatate & find out the policy.

My store also has the guarantee. I would also contact corporate.

WOW! I shop at the "beach" and that store does not give you the item free, they only adjust the price.

Now they do back their brand items 100%, no questions asked.

I need to check out their site, because I have caught them many times not ringing up the correct price.....now Farm Fresh will give you the item for free, but only the first one.

Kroger policy is also only the first one, you get the difference back for the others.

We've got the guarantee here. One item is free and others adjusted to the correct price.

I don't have the garantee here in illinois. I am lucky if i can get them to adjust it to the right price.

Farm Fresh will also give you the item for free if they are out of stock & have to issue a raincheck.

Thanks for the input. As I said, they honored it at all of the Krogers in Memphis (for the first item then correctly priced the others). I couldn't find any info on their website. I think I am going to call tomorrow and see if I can find out anything from corporate. I need to change the address for my shopper's card anyway- you would think there would be a way to do that online but the FAQs page actually tells you to call them for that. Seems like way too much trouble on their part, but I get coupons occasionally and don't want to miss out by not updating my info. I'll let y'all know what I learn.

Just to update- I called today and was informed that it was at each store's discretion as to whether to follow the policy: "most do but a few store managers choose not to." Oh, well. It was worth a shot.

What are the laws in your state? I'd suggest you take a look at the website for your AG. Many states have laws about compensating the consumer when a price is scanned incorrectly. If you can't find any info on the website, email for information.

That's my luck, the stores I shop the managers choose NOT to honor this.

They have also recently changed the coupons they mail to you.....that are generated by your Kroger card. I recently got a $8 off $80 purchase, but now the wording says "$80 purchase is AFTER ALL DISCOUNTS are applied and excludes Alcohol, Tobacco Products, Fuel, Gift Cards, Taxes, Prescriptions and Customer Care Center."

So, these are useless to me now because I never, ever spend that much AFTER discounts.

That's ridiculous! That is not something that should be left up to the manager's discretion.
I wonder if the stores where the manager chooses not to follow the policy are ones where the employees are horrible about keeping up with the price changes?

I always thought that all Krogers had the guarantee, guess not. I use this all the time, almost on every trip there something rings up wrong and many times they don't fix it in the computer either and I get it free again the next time I shop. Unfortunately this requires a trip to the CS desk each time - they know me there. Last summer I got lots of Haagen Dazs for free because my favorite flavor did not ring up with the sale prize, I must have gotten about 12 or 14 pints in all. Right now it is the unsweet Red Diamond Tea at my store, says $1.99 on the sticker and rings up $2.19 everytime. I get a gallon a week and each time I get my refund, they write a note and still have not fixed it - it's been a couple of months of free tea for me now. Honestly, I think they should give the product free, it is my time and money they are waisting by not having things ring up right.

Guess What? I got a NEW STORE MANAGER in my favorite Kroger.....I was overcharged tonight on a pair of Titanium Scissors on the clearance table (charged $6.99 when they should have been $3.49) so I called, asked for the manager, asked for his name and how long he had been there (3 weeks now) and he told me to come see him personally, that it is NOT UP TO EACH STORE MANAGER'S DISCRETION whether to honor the right price guarantee, store policy is that you get the FIRST item free like everyone has said. He wants me to come see him personally so he can "compensate" me for my bad experiences in the past with the previous manager. :) I will keep you posted as I won't be going until Thursday as my daughter is sick with pneumonia and he is off until then.

My store in Houston, TX gives you the item for free only if it is food. No clearance guarantee or misc. guarantee.

That doesn't seem fair......what if it is laundry detergent? Cleaning supplies?

I specifically told this manager that these scissors were on the clearance table and he wanted the cashiers name, as they have been "trained" to "key" in those prices, whatever that means. I thought you only got the clearance price with the Kroger card??

I have had more run-ins with the management at this Kroger since I started this thread (the latest today). After I was told that they didn't price-match (and called corporate, etc), I noticed a plastic sign on the wall by customer service regarding the guarantee. Guess what- evidently they do have that service but since the sign is covered with flyers nobody knows about it. Nothing had scanned wrong since the initial instance until today.

When my chips scanned wrong today I said that I wanted them free. The cashier glanced around and said, "for what?" I explained the price-match guarantee and she said, "We don't do that. I guess they need to take that sign down." I said, "Well the sign is there and I want them free." She replied, "Lady, I'm not losing my job for your chips." I stood there and looked at her until she called the manager who said, "No, you only get it for free if you complete the checkout and notice it's wrong. Then you can come back in to customer service and we will refund it. If you notice at the checkout, we only have to adjust the price." I mentioned the guarantee and the sign and she said, "You don't understand. That's not the way it works." I held my tongue and told them to take the chips off my ticket. I completed the checkout and went to the back of the store and got another bag of chips, stood in line, paid (the wrong amount) for them and then went to the customer service line. The manager was standing a few aisles away talking and wouldn't come to help me. After she looked at me several times she must have realized that I wasn't leaving. She finally walked over to the counter and stared at me. I handed her the chips and receipt and said, "These scanned wrong." She said, "Why didn't you tell her that before you checked out?" I just looked at her and said, "Now they are free, right?" I was so angry!!! She grumbled to herself the whole time she was counting out my money.

I actually stopped and moved the papers aside to read the sign before I left the store. It says they will give you the item for free but please tell them before you leave the checkout. Since I was crunched for time, I didn't go back to explain it to her (again). I am sure that we will be running into each other again (and again, and again). They may end up taking the sign down, but they will be honoring it as long as it is there.

You go girl!!
Kroger has frosted me a few times over their stupid doubles policy. Nothing over $.50 goes to a dollar at my store because of lack of competition in the area???!!
Thanks for the info about the prices. I've not paid close enough attention b/c I'm usually alone and still unloading when they start. I will from now on.
Good lesson.

That is actually the way it works at my local stores too. The item has to ring up wrong, then you go to CS to get the money back. If I just tell them during check-out, they will adjust the price and that's it. I don't mind too much as I figure in a trip to the CS desk everytime I shop there anyway and at least they know what they are doing and always make it right.

It works the same way here at both Kroger and Farm Fresh. I have to COMPLETE the transaction, then take it to the CS desk to get the item for free. If I correct it while they are doing the transaction, it only gets adjusted..........if I keep quiet, pay and then take it to the CS desk, I get it for free.

Doesn't make sense now does it? Once I am at the CS desk, they call the Scan Analysist to the desk and have them to fix the price immediately. If they adjust at the register, guess what? It never changes on the shelf. (you need a smacking yourself in the forehead smilie here~lol)

I'm in NC. My store has the guarentee. I would check with the Store Mgr first. That way if someone there hasn't been trained properly you give them the opportunity to correct the situation. If that doesn't work, then contact corporate.

That actually makes a lot of sense and had it been explained that way to me I wouldn't have had a problem with it. I was beyond annoyed with her attitude, though. Thanks for at least expaining the policy- I had just never encountered having to do it that way.

Well, I had something not ring up the right price today. Paid for the groceries, took my receipt with the item to the CS desk where the assistant manager was and guess what? He only wanted to give me the difference. I gave him the business and told them to give me my things back, that I would return tomorrow and see the store manager himself with the items and then the 3 of us could work it out. He tried to fix it then and I told him too late...it wasn't the first time he had tried to rip me off but it was going to be the last one.

Will update tomorrow.

I think that is pretty standard- it seems that most places that do give an item free only do it for the first one.
