Ok, so lots of us use floral WT and such to help out with Christmas flowers, but in a few climates, you can carry your poinsettias over year after year and they'll turn out beautiful. I cut mine back after Christmas, and it's a very pretty green plant, big as day, right now on the front porch. Poinsettias are actually a tropical plant, so they thrive in humid, hot conditions.
I have heard that if you are in a super cold climate, you can cut your poinsettia back (and I mean REALLY cut it back), put it in the dark, and water occasionally. Bring it out when the weather turns warm. :) Word to the wise, my poinsettias have always liked filtered sun...but lots of it. Shade probably wouldn't be a good thing.
