How strict is the under 3 minute rule? Our video is 4:12 - because there is a certain song involved - - - would it be okay to bend this rule? (seeing as how there aren't too many other videos) or do we need to cut it down?

I really don't know what we could cut - it's kind of involved... you'll understand when you see it.

We're in the stages of final editing - we're new at this, it's taken a while....

A few fun facts :
Took 3 days to film.... at 10 locations.
We shot 2.5 hrs of video... lots of great out takes!
The little guy at the park is referred to as "Babybird"
Yes, that was a real cop. It took some fast sweet-talk to get that footage.

Okaliedokalie is the one in front of K-Mart
The scenes inside the store were really fun to do - we kind of had to sneak Bestbirths daughter behind the cosmetics counter ... did you know managers don't really like it when you use cameras in their stores?

That's funny pennywatcher. My husband wanted to make a video of the flip side of coupons because he thinks it takes too much time and won't go to Meijer with me unless it's a special occasion because we're there for like 2 hours. :hysterical: I wanted him to be in my video, but he was too embarrassed. He said that cereal line a lot during the Kellogg's deal...but I just kept bringing it home and giving it to people!

Behind the scenes on my video:
My DH says the picture of the lemonade doesn't even show the magnitude of all I got (my brother works at a camp, so I gave it to them and didn't get a good pic)

My 3 yr old's favorite part is the coupons falling- he cracks up EVERY time!

I shot the coupons falling about 10 times in different places...I have a couple coupons that slipped behind the molding and I can't get out w/out taking it off so they may stay there a while!

My friend had gotten so many papers that first week of January that they were delivered in a garbage bag. Her sis and BIL were living with them and he went to get the paper, but didn't know what to do when he saw that! They're definitely not into coupons like us.:giggle2:

The jeep.gal part was supposed to be video so you could see the bug. I just remember seeing the thread about it being annoying that she posts and thinking that was rude...until I actually read the posts!

The pic of my DD was not staged...both kids are obsessed with my coupons.

2nd fave is Pennywatcher's, although it woud be a little better w/ sound...but I understand the constraints (that's why I didn't make a video myself)!!!

3rd is Pantry Raiders and Going Shopping. They scan the UPC on the products and the coupons/winetags! Haa! That is awesome!!!

I've enjoyed each and every one of the videos! I liked "raiders of the pantry". With 5 children and cousins coming over, i see that as a new couponer, I will very soon have that problem as our pantry fills. I liked Greenfrog57's video and seeing other peoples stashes is so fun, like on the stash thread. Of course, my favorite is "the coupon song", since I am in it. My children like the "going shopping" where the children pretend to shop. I laughed so hard when in the pretend play the child pays the person shopping to take the groceries, LOL!!! I liked the cute little animated couponing cartoon....and I wonder if I too will soon start dreaming about coupons. I loved the video where all the stars were photoshopped to have shopped at CVS. Everyone has done so much work on this project and it is very much appreciated! I think this contest is doing a lot to educate people about couponing.

I , too, agree that I made this video for fun, to portray couponing in a positive way, and see what other HCW'ers could come up with.... It's been fun so far. We have had just one negative comment and so many positive. One person put a thumbs down next to a comment about the colon blow. Who could possibly be offended at a little old lady getting excited about a sale on colon blow???? I put a thumbs up by the comment with a thumbs down and it seemed to cancel it out. :hysterical: So, If you get any thumbs down, you can erase them that way!

Greenfrog57 and The coupon song have been less than 100 views apart all week on youtube. Once the coupon song was behind by 25 views. Views seem to increase at the same rate for both of those entries. Except over the past two days Greenfrog57's increased by 75 more views than ours.

You can definitely tell who got their videos up first. It seems impossible that those of us that were later will even get close to their amount of views. I just feel bad if someone gets an awesome video up in the next few days because there's no way they can catch up to the first 2. I guess the early bird gets the worm. :wink7: I'm surprised there haven't been more videos though. It does take a lot of work, so I understand that aspect for sure.

hey folks - remember that people other than HCWers are viewing and commenting on these. If there are neg votes, we'll include them in the overall count - the goal was to try and get as much feedback as possible, not necessarily weigh the positive or the negative.

As to time to get people voting your way - part of this is that you can campaign both on and off the site....send it to your church group, office, email list, etc to view - slap it on your blog or post it on another site you might belong to. You've got almost a full 3 weeks to get the vote out - it's an election year after all!!! Someone with lots of friends could submit a video tomorrow and still sweep this thing!

I didn't realize they were still accepting videos. I thought it closed last week. We actually had another idea we were going to do, but didn't because I thought it was over. I guess 2 videos are enough. :biggrin:
(The kids all keep coming up with new ideas, we might have to make some "sequels" just for fun.)

I did notice the voting down too. I told all my friends to vote for us, but also for the ones they like. I think all the videos are great and should be enjoyed. I get that the idea is to get more people to HCW though, so I'm spreading the word to people I know who are always saying "wow-can you teach me how to do that?". They never actually seem to want to do the work, but the videos might get them more interested. :wink7:

I'm not sure what you're upset about. Your video has gotten some great feedback and it's all positive views! The point of the contest was to drive awareness about couponing and couponers by having fun with what we love doing.

I'm not sure where your confusion lies. The tally will be based on total feedback, good and bad, and your video right now is in the top 5, and not that far from potentially taking a 3rd place.

We've said all along you could promote your video here on the site. I don't think that's spamming other members to view your video - it's encouraging them to see your work.

Last year about this time, we did a similar contest where we had people shoot pics of their stockpile - and some of their entries were amazing. Heidi's DH did a birthday cake made entirely of wrigleys gum.

So I wouldn't stress over this - it's really is all in fun. If you're still troubled by it, please PM me.

Jeepgal your video was great! I really enjoyed it and admire you for entering the contest. As far as comments go my husband is on that site all the time and anybody can say anything they want so think nothing of it. I wish I would have checked out the videos sooner but I was just to busy. I plan on showing the ones I liked best to some family members. They were all very creative!
