We're actually on a very large server and disk space isn't the problem. It's how much content needs to load on our pages, and Mark was telling me tonight that the forum home page is like 128 Kilobytes which I have no idea what that means, but I know that it's a ton of stuff. Our server though has the capacity to store much more data then we have - it's how fast it can all be retrieved when there are several thousand people on at one time, or using features like the chatroom, etc.

The site gets about 12,000 unique visitors a day right now, so our traffic load is pretty busy.

Guess i am not worried about the extra click, i just like being able to be alerted to a new post in a store i actually shop out...however, i could do with out the last post column with the new post from that category...(1/2 the time the post is not even for a store i shop at in that subcategory)

All of the store names, under Grocery stores, Big Box, etc on the MAIN forum page have just up and disappeared.

Anyone else notice this?

It's much faster here! I was all set to give my hubby credit....thinking he did something to speed it up. But...I'll give the credit to Mark. Thanks!!

I didn't notice the difference in the main page, since I'm only there for a second! I spend 90% of my time on "new posts"...and use the forum jump at the bottom, if I need to get somewhere else quickly.

I think it's much faster too. Hurray. But now today I notice the list of who's on at the bottom is gone. Is that one of the changes to help speed it along? I know there's a link under Quick Links. Just asking in case it is just me and I'm not caffeinated properly this morning. Is that a word?

Just a common sense. If you need a CVS thread you go to the "Drug Stores" heading.

Much better. But to be fair I do think it has to be an option to go back to the old style for those who want it.

Most forum software isn't set up to give two configuration choices....give it a week or so and see if you can't live without the old configuration. I think you'll be surprised. ;)

I think speeding it up is great, and I don't miss a thing myself. Nice idea.
