Speed Check - page load times

one thing I did to speed things up was to edit my options to NOT display avatars, images, pictures. It helped a bit

I also show the oldest message 1st so that I do not have to wait for all of the older messages to load(since I have already read them)

Loads great for me, sometimes I cant reach the site, but when that happens thats due to a ISP router which many people (others here too probably with older SBC, or newer AT&T accounts in areas that used to be SBC since AT&T just left it as is when they bought SBC and new accounts in the old SBC area are put on it) seem to have a problem with at times, not the site's or hostdime's fault.

It's extremely slow for me using IE. Very frustrating. I have cable which is usually fast. I may try Foxfire to see if that speeds things up any.

Just a note for everyone - we are going to be doing a new server upgrade in the next week or so - it should be faster for everyone when it's done (hopefully!!!)

I'm not sure what's going on, but for the past couple days HCW has been extremely slow for me.....I have to wait at least 2 - 3 minutes for any page on HCW to load! All other websites are fine.....they load very fast, 2 to 3 seconds at most. I use :

OS: Windows XP
Connection: Broadband, avg. speed 400 kbps
Browser: IE, version 6.0

I tried clearing the cache, rebooting, limiting posts per page to 10 and using Firefox......none of these helped!

Any suggestions as to what I can do? It's extremely frustrating waiting so long for each page to load!

ETA: I also noticed this, not sure if it is of any significance: When I try to load HCW in firefox, it shows this message at the bottom corner while I wait for the page to load: 'Connecting to secure.quantserve.com'. What does that mean?

Quantserve, if memory serves me correct, is a "tracking"/ranking service for traffic that is used on this site. It's nothing bad, nothing like spyware. But I would say if you get that message of 'Connecting' in Firefox, then just refresh the page. Sometimes what comes back from a server gets "lost" on the net, especially if somewhere along the way a router or ISP is having issues or overloaded.

As for load times, it seems great. There are moments when it lags, but Im sure that is because of Internet traffic and the amount of page loads on the site at the time. In other words, the busy time of the day.
