Default A note about general size of signatures - Please read

As many of you have noticed we recently got a whole boat load of new smileys uploaded to the site (Thank you youpdwhat for taking that on for me!) Mind you, these smileys are lots of fun, and since we do not allow users to use thier own images in signatures only smileys I wanted to take this opportunity to remind all member to keep thier signatures on the small size. There is a limit to how many characters you can use, but I am requesting that all users refrain from using some of our bigger smileys and bigger font sizes. Remember that there are member that are on dial up and these images take longer for thier page to load.

There is an option in your user control panel to disable signatures but since many members have their have/wish lists in them that is not always convenient to disable signatures.

That being said... if you find a member that's signature is getting out of hand size wise please PM me and LMK.

If your signature is reported as being too big expect a PM from me asking to knock it down in size. This is nothing personal, we just wish to make HCW a pleasant place for all.

And remember! No off site links are allowed in signatures unless your link is approved! To request approval of your off site link, please send a PM to sbp.

I'm not sure whats considered excessive but some of the mods with 5+ lines and smileys tend to often be longer than their posts...which is annoying and simply not fair when the average member can't have more than three which can be extremely hard if you want to format the colors or fonts....

I wanted to say that I TOTALLY agree with Purple on this one. I can think of several mods right off the top of my head that have the 5+ lines and the 5-6" font

I use this option, and it's really not that inconvenient. I just click on their user name, to bring up their profile. I've done it this way since I joined, so it's what I'm used to.

One of the benefits of being a mod is that we do get longer siggy's so we can include our personal things like all members have and board things as well.
The mods are trying to help the members get to know them and the forums they moderate to keep a personal touch to such a HUGE and growing board. The more forums they oversee, the more links you will see.

Many of our mods have faq's and helpful tips in their sigs as well.
So, it may seem unfair but Im pretty sure our sigs help many many members every day.

And, as said above, you do have the ability to disable sigs.

I'm not saying its not a benefit, but when I can't even fit three lines of text because of the character limit for formatting text its a bit uneven don''t you think? I had to take out everything else just to barely fit what I have now while mods can have rainbows of formatting, tons of links and smilies and row after row of text, with spaces between as they see fit. So maybe what I'm saying is the gap between grunt and mod is too large which makes it unfair?

Purplefdu, I think you have to look at what's in the signature, not just the size of it. Many of our mods, they have very limited personal stuff in their signature lines. Kristen's has 3 lines whereas the rest of the information is informational to the site. The links are redirects to other parts of the site that many new people find helpful.

I can understand your frustration, and I can see where some of them are a little large even for me to look at, most all the information correlates to what they do on the site or how they can get help. And because it's distinctive from general member's signatures, people do look at them and utilize them as resources. In a forum this large pushing nearly 1 million posts, having that information be easily accessible through people's signature line is not only a benefit to the mods who volunteer and literally put in hours for free to help others (a big sig line is a nomimal thanks when compared to what they do), but to a non-registered user who is reading through posts and they see the redirects, they can begin to better understand what we do, how the site operates, the "rules" if you will, and where the important information can be found.

It's not intended as a slight to general members at all.
