I'm tempted to write them. Part of their appeal was they were a "no frills" kinda store. No bags, no major ads, etc. HOWEVER, they've added a series of commercials to their repertoire. This of course drives up their prices (and yes I know prices are going up everywhere). This wasn't why I started shopping there. I'm very disappointed with them. :(

Yeah I noticed this too, we had just recently gotten Direct TV after not having anything for year and all of a sudden I started seeing the commercials. I really don't like when small places like that go main stream. I enjoyed it being only you knew about it by word of mouth. It sucks cause when I was younger going shopping there with my parents I remember them spending $80 and getting a ton of stuff. My first trip there on my own with my BF we spent $80 and didn't get as much as I hoped. I was disappointed. So now I only go there for specific things.

$4.49 for a 10lb bag of potatoes at Aldi's...are they out of their minds????
I went to a local produce store the same day and got a 50 lb bag for 10.98.

Now that is absolutely ridiculous! What is the point of going there at all now if you can get the stuff cheaper somewhere else. I haven't been in a while and when I do go back, I will only by the items that are still reasonably priced. I am highly upset w/ this news!

I'm salivating with jealousy over the prices ya'll are quoting. I would love to pay these prices! Are you all in different areas, or is this Aldi's prices in general?

I believe that Aldi's prices are pretty standard everywhere. A lot of the items have their price printed onto the packaging. I bought a 3lb bag of rice last week for $1.19 which was what the shelf price said. But, when I was putting it away, I noticed the packaging was printed with $1.49. At least I am expecting that increase now. The vegetable oil used to be $1.29, then $1.49 and now is $2.29. Those two particular items are going up everywhere, though; not just at Aldi's. I also wondered about the almost double in price of the marshmallows though. Surely, there is no worldwide marshmallow shortage. LOL What is up with that increase? The weird thing is that there are a lot of items that really haven't changed in price, but others have increased in huge amounts.

The Aldi prices are not standard. I've compared with people & they honestly run comparably with major & local chains as far as prices varying regionally.

I've noticed the increases as well. Vegetable oil that was 1.79 a month ago is now 2.19, and their powdered sugar that was 88 cents is now 99 cents. The kicker, though, is celery. 5 weeks ago it was 69 cents. Last week it was $1.99. Guess who didn't buy celery last week...
On the bright side, our Aldi has milk for $1.99 a gallon and eggs for $1.29 a dozen and the manager said they will be that price through the Fall!

Milk at the Aldi's I go to in MN is $2.39/gal for Skim and $2.49/gal for 2%. The eggs have also gone back down to .99/doz. I don't shop for a lot there except the milk, eggs, and sometimes produce.

Wow, those are great prices. At my Aldis in PA the eggs were 1.69 and my skim milk was 3.59 a gallon. I too have noticed the price increases. I used to pay 1.89 for the canola oil, the other day it was 2.79. Luckily I have 4 other supermarkets within minutes of me so I just keep up with the sales and stock up when I find a bargain.
