I was going to suggest the write-up possibly being a factor too but if that were the case and the cashier knew it was there why did she leave it?

But having worked as a cashier previously, yes, being short a dime could be enough for a write up or even termination if your drawer was short enough that that one coin puts it over the allowed shortage. I do not mean this towards you , person who wrote this thread , but in reference to folks thinking someone would not be written up or lose their job over a little coin. It can happen.

I appreciate all the comments because when this incident happened, it bothered me, but I also felt that maybe I was making a mountain out of a molehill. The cashier yelling at me made me feel like I had done something wrong.

I don't think the money belonged to the store because the cashier would not have processed the order without payment in full. I think the money was dropped by a customer. Yes, the cashiers do throw your change at you and immediately ringing up the next customer, so you have to move quickly to get out of everybody's way.

I emailed Aldi's customer service, but they never responded.

I finally got the courage yesterday to tell an assistant manager what happened. He said if a customer drops a $20 bill, then they prefer that you leave it on the floor in case the customer returns. When I told him that it was only a coin, he didn't understand why the cashier made an issue. He apologized and offered me a free bouquet of flowers as compensation.

My son found a $20 on the floor in the grocery store. I didn't know what to do, so I made him leave it with the store manager, who said we could come back and claim it later if no one else did. And sure enough, we went back and got it later!
