re: Aldi's coming to DFW?!
I checked out the one that just opened near me this weekend. My first mistake was inviting my husband and son to join me. :P
Here is what I learned from the experience:
1. You have to pay a .25 deposit to use their grocery cart. (I got lucky and found one abandoned in the parking lot, so I MADE a quarter. lol)
2. Almost all their products are generic (Aldi) so on the one hand you get a REALLY cheap product, on the other, no coupons or combined deals.
3. The only produce I bought were bananas which were .39/lb which is really cheap. The drawback is that it is pre-bagged (you just pick a bag) and they were very green. 5 days later, the bananas are still fairly green and untouched.
4. They only take cash or debit cards. (No checks or credit cards)
5. They do not bag your groceries (supposed to be a cost-cutting feature) so they simply put them into another cart and you bag them yourself (this would have been less hectic had I been shopping without the men), which leads me to...
6. I took my own reusable bags, but apparently you're charged (?) for plastic bags.
7. The store was fairly small, which is usually a good thing, but the way it is set up (sort of forcing you through the store) can be a hassle to get around (think corral). It's hard to describe until you're actually there.
I only went because they mailed out 5/25 coupons and a 20% discount is always good, but I don't see myself going through that again. I have another coupon for 10/40 but I can't see how I could possibly get $40 from there.

I've been shopping at the one in Richardson on Belt Line. I LOOOOOVE the fact I can get cheap produce. :D
