There will be an Aldi's literally 5 minutes from my house and our Publix just bought out the Albertson's. Supposedly they are moving my Publix to that store, so both store will be right across from each other! Very convient!
I definitely plan to price check them against my 'bottom' price for the staples. If they are at or just above, I will stop stockpiling that stuff. Save some space for the stuff that I can get very cheap elsewhere with BOGO and q's.

I go to Aldie's about once a month for canned vegetables mostly. The small canned mushrooms are about 49 cents per can and we use a lot of them. Even at the commissary they are about 69 cents per can. I definitely do NOT do my major shopping there but there are some things that are cheaper even without coupons. Of course, we do have 2 Aldies pretty close to my house so I do not have to drive more than about 3 or 4 miles to one. I don't mind bagging my own stuff and the quarter for the shopping cart does not bother me. I have always found the cashiers to be friendly and I have got some really great deals there (especially when they were opening a new store since they gave out good coupons).
I'm so excited they are opening one in Ocala...but it's on the other side of town :frown: . I used to shop there all the time when I lived in MD. I couldn't have made it with out Aldi! They have good prices on staples.
I used to buy lots of snack cakes & things for hubbies lunch from there. As well as Milk (it was the cheapest there) canned veggies, cheese, yogurt...etc
I can't wait!!![]()
Does anyone know if Aldis has specials on their Grand Opening day? The Aldis on 66th Street in Pinellas Park, FL is opening this Thursday! :o)
ALDI has a special web site for the new central Florida stores...
Their main US web site is here:
Ordinarily they don't have coupons. However, some grand opening Qs have been spotted recently in Florida...
ALDI is short for "ALbrecht DIscount," after the founding brothers' names Karl and Theo Albrecht. See this Wikipedia article for more ALDI history.
Note that on the ALDI web site (as well as their signs, flyers, and ads), the name is always capitalized and does not have a 's.
I will use that coupon at Publix!!! Cool!!!!
I am going to get my milk there and check out some prices. The ad said $2.79 and Sam's is $3.59. I can make it on my way home from work without going out of my way. We can easily drink 3 gallons of milk a week so that is nearly $3 saved each time for milk!
DW went to the one just opened up in Palm Bay.
Found milk for low to mid $2 range, and some cheap mac & cheese as well.
It isn't exactly nearby to us, but if we're ever in that area, I suppose we could stock up on a few things.

In search of a new sig. Any suggestions?
The Aldis in my area (Kissimmee) are a good drive for me but I got some very good deals. I shopped there to refill my pantry which had been bare for some time. Now I will just go there on occasion for milk and other items that are a good deal.
Milk btw at the St Cloud location is 2.79 a gallon and my husband says it is good milk. He is very picky about the milk we buy here in FL. We are from VT and the milk here is just not the same.
Just visited the location on the East Coast and I was pleased with the prices for dairy and produce.
3 lb bag of Florida Oranges 1.29
3 lb bag of any type of apple 1.99 (just paid 3.99 at Publix:frown:)
Milk 2.79
Dozen Eggs 1.19
Strawberries 2.49 From Dole (they are 4.99 in Publix)
Mac and Cheese in the box .25 (which I heard was equal in taste to Kraft)
Sliced Cheese (16 slices) .89
Canned veggies .47-49 cents
Overall, yes the selection is limited and your not sure about the "taste" of the generic products but for produce, diary and canned veggies I would shop regularly.
Example: My 3yr old wanted to try the Crunchy Cheese Curls similar to the Cheeto's brand and I found them to taste stale and bland although, she liked them. But for 1.19 a bag I can't complain.
