Thumbs Down Price increases at Aldi

Well, I noticed this weekend that prices have seriously gone UP at Aldi's recently. I have been shopping there at least 2-3 times per month, but this week was I guess I just "felt" it more. Maybe because I spent $10 on $125 worth of stuff at Meijer. Then, I went in Aldi's to get some "basics" and spent $26 on not much of anything. It was a real downer to that after Meijer buzz high.

I had a list and had planned on spending less than $20. I made my list with a price total for the items. They were out of bread; so I didn't get any of that and still I spent $6 more than my $20 estimate. My Aldi "pricebook"--which is just their regular prices that I've memorized after years of being a frequent shopper there-- has become outdated due to many recent price hikes.

Also, I have noticed that the Aldi's in Indy has several staples cheaper than the local small town Aldi's I often go to. Especially milk which was $2.99 same as CVS here, but was $1.88 in Indy last week. I believe the eggs and potatoes were cheaper in the city, too. I guess I have to figure out whether it is cheaper to pay the gas and make the extra 10 minute drive or spend some extra on a few price differences. :frown:

I noticed that Aldi has recently started running commercials in our area. I wonder if that has anything to do with their prices going up along w/ the gas hikes! What a bummer. I shop at Aldi's majority of the time, at least once a week! I think they could scale back on those color circulars they send out weekly as well to help keep the prices down IMHO!

For some reason those commercials remind me of the Mentos commercials.

Yeah, the first time I saw that ad on tv, I told dh we were gonna be paying for that stupid commercial!!! I agree, their printed ads seem to be more expensive... on glossy heavy-weight paper, in full color, etc. Wouldn't they save a ton by doing more newsprint type ads like the other grocery stores???

I also have noticed that their prices are higher! I don't even look at their meat anymore, as it is considerably higher than Kroger or even WalMart! I haven't bought milk there in a good while also sonce I can go elsewhere for cheaper! Oh well!

Have you tried their hamburgers? We really like those. It's a package of 12 for $5.somthing. They used to be $5.25 or close to, but now they are $5.69 I think. Still better than the prices I get at my local supermarket.

I've noticed our Aldi is raising their prices too. It's a nice Aldi, but I do think that I spent more than I should since now my bill at the grocery store is getting less. Since I could just walk to Aldi (it is 1 block from my house), it has been a real convenience, but not when I could save more on something at the regular grocery store.

Those circulars are a big joke. I get them and they just go in the trash anyways. It's nice to know the sales at Aldi, but sometimes the ad doesn't say much. Just wasted paper and ink imo.

Yep, some of their prices have gotten higher lately. But, off the top of my head, I can't think of a store (or restaurant, gas station, movie theater, etc.) where the prices are going down! Rising prices are, unfortunately, the way things are for now.

I mostly shop for produce at Aldi's, and I feel like I'm still getting a good deal it. I can get the 1 lb. bags of baby carrots and the 8 oz mushrooms for .99...when they'e not in the sale ad. For the past 2 weeks, I've been able to get 10 lbs of potatoes for $1.69, and 3 lb bags of onions for .99.

Luckily, there are 2 Aldi's that are clean, well-kept stores, near us. And both are near other stores where we might be shopping. One is by Walgreens and the Dollar Tree...the other is next door to the auto parts store that my hubby frequents. So, we never have to make a special trip there...we just pick up fresh produce if we're already in the area.

Aww I hope the stuff I like to buy there didn't go up to much. I haven't been there in about 2 weeks which I was upset that they didn't have what I was going there for in the first place and I only picked up a few things and spent $20 with no problems. Only thing I like to get there the most is there produce because they are cheaper then my local supermarket.

I thought the same thing. Marshmellows used to be $ .69 and the other day they were $1.29
