NEWBIE NO great deals allowed ??

Hi, I have never posted before this but had to tell people about an experience at an Arizona Albertsons I had yesterday.
I went to one I usually don't go to and was using $1.00 coupons on the Quaker oatmeal deal and was told that they can't accept coupons that you would be saving more than 75% and even showed a memo that they received on this. Cashier also said that it is supposed to be happening at all of them???
I just left and went to another one and used the coupons just fine but I thought that was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. I guess now supposed to do figuring and make sure not to be saving 76% because OH NO they might not except it because I would be saving too much money? So silly !!

Wow! I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I did a couple of the breakfast deals and had no problems. Spent about $12, saved about $50 each time. Guess I just made the "cut off". Close call... LOL

But really, which price do the mean, the reg self price, the sale price of one, the promotional price, or what? Is the 75% off the total bill or off a single item? Are they going to post signs of the banned coupon at at every item?

I am not sure if they are looking at individual items or total order when they said the 75% off.
They must go by whatever the price of the item is ringing up, sale or not ( since that is all I was buying) that you are not supposed to be getting the more than 75%.
I don't know if this is an individual store thing or not. The cashier made it sound though that it is suppposed to end up being all of them. I have though email their CS online and told them what happened and at what store. I asked them if this is correct and if they would be doing this at other stores. I will post whenever they decide to get back to me.

Thats the craziest thing I have ever heard!! Luckily I hardly ever shop at Albertsons. I am also in AZ, and they don't double coupons here. So I stick to Frys & Bashas most of the time.

I called my store at 19th ave and Northern. The Line Manager said they all got an email from corporate saying that for INTERNET PRINTED COUPONS only, if it would make the item free they can only honor it up to 75% of the face value. It does not apply to regular MC coupons just internet printables.

Just to clarify ^_^

Just a thought on this... if they only honor 75% of the face value of IPs, are they only receiving 75% of the face value from the manufacturer? Because if they are receiving 100%, isn't that coupon fraud?

That's exactly what I was wondering. It doesn't matter if you pay out of pocket or get the item free after coupon, they get back the full face value of the coupon, plus a handling fee. If they made the rule about competitors' (store) coupons, that would be a different story, as they're just out the money. That kind of messing around with percentages and such would lose me as a customer for sure.

I had emailed CS back on Tuesday and still, of course, have never received a response. I am planning on calling them instead. I also in the email pointed out that I do not understand what they are doing with the coupons since they get paid the full amount of the coupon back. But also the one store that I was at was telling me that 75% on ANY coupon, as I also had insert coupons.
So that is also what is irritating to me. How can they only give us so much but receive more back from the manufacturer. Who is cheating whom here? I also told them that with this that they would lose my business and others who rely on coupons to stretch their budget.
Hopefully I can get a response from them over the phone since they are not answering my email.

It sounds like they are doing this because of the fact that internet coupons can be easily copied. Which is the reason why some stores don't accept them at all.

The fact is people do copy the IPs and the store does not get reimbursed for the copied ones.

Though I do agree that 75% off seems kinda lame. And typical of some to misinterpret that IP doesn't mean ALL coupons. But I would think I would rather have them give me 75% off rather than not accept it at all (like other stores).

As much as we like to think that the big companies OWE us something, or can afford to LOOSE MONEY, they do not. It is their store and their rules. Sometimes we need to look at both sides. With the way the economy is going more and more people are looking for something for nothing and they think "Hey why not just photocopy this coupon to save even more."

Whether they realize it or not that the store won't get reimbursed for said coupon and they may not care, all they know is they want what they want and they will get it as cheaply and easily as possible. They don't care to think that the fact is they are stealing from the store (which is what it is) may drive up prices or make them change policies making it so they don't loose so much money. These are also the same people that will complain when prices rise.

The companies are there to make money. Just like ANY business owner is otherwise it is called a charity.
