I need your coupon advice. I went to my Albies yesterday to buy the Propel Antioxidant Waters for .47 cents each. A week ago, my Albies had a tear pad coupon for .55 off 1 so I was going to buy 24 Propel and use 20 coupons but the Assistant standing next to the checker told me that I couldn't use the coupons because they were for more than the price of the item and they won't get reimbursed the whole .55. She then told me that it was fraud to use a coupon that is more than the price of the item. I am confused about this issue. A manufacturer makes a coupon for this price but a store won't take it because they are charging less for that item even though I bought extra to make up for the difference and the coupon will scan. So what is the official policy on something like this? I bought 20 Propel two weeks ago when they were priced @ .50 each and used the .55 cent coupons then with no problem. I just want to do this the right way. I don't want to cheat anyone out of anything so any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Betty

Betty I don't know what Albertsons official policy is on allowing coupons for over the ammount of the purchase price of the coupon. But to say that they cannot take the coupon period or that you are commiting fraud is incorrect. It is not your fault that the sale price (or clearance price or whatever price) is under the value of the coupon. Stores can adjust the price of the coupon to the price of the item, or they can adjust the price of the item to the price of the coupon. OR they can just scan the freeking coupons and let you get the overage and apply it to your other purchases in your order. LOL

My Albertsons just scans them and lets me have the overage. YMMV. Overage is nice, but should not really be expected. But the stores will get reimbursed for the full value of the coupon plus the 8 cents handling fee. So the cashier was misinformed on that one. Next time, ask to speak to the store manager.

mine let's me have the overage also , I have been doing it all week with though's .55 coupon's , so your store need's to not say it is fraud ,

I went to a safeway the other day to get some AMP's they would have all been free with my $1.00 coupon's I had , but these coupon have never ever scanned , I have used over 60 of them and not one scanned , so they alway's look at the coupon and override it and put it in for me , but this one cashier kept looking at I know it is right cause I used so many of them I even said these never scanned , but I have like 50 other coupon's to use for other thing's , so a huge line was behind me and I said to the other customer , wow the coupon police , that guy said Ya I know ,

That cashier said NO I AM NOT THE COUPON POLICE I AM LOOKING CAUSE YOU ARE USING AND IT IS FRAUD , I was like WHAT??????????????? The manager came over and said oh no thoughs are real and good coupons . DUH!!!!!!!!!

I really hate when they don't know how to do their job and blame us all with coupon FRAUD makes me so mad ,
I love and Miss you Daddy so very very much

Update: I called Customer Service and the lady really didn't know what the policy was but would forward my case to the Regional Manager which I really didn't want to happen. I ended up calling the store manager and he said he didn't see why they shouldn't have taken the coupons. The manager talked with one of his top Assistants and came back to tell me that they should have just adjusted the coupons for the amount of the item so I wouldn't get any overage. I called Propel to find out about how they accept reimbursements for coupons and he said some stores just write down how much they sold the item for but most stores just send them in at face value for full reimbursement. He didn't see why they didn't just scan it at face value when the store is going to get that much back anyway. I don't mind just getting the item for free but I was bugged that I was told they couldn't accept the coupon at all and that it was considered coupon fraud. I guess the propel is on sale for .50 so I can go in and get them all for free. I feel sorry for the cashier who has to change every coupon to .50 from .55. I don't see what the big deal is, they're getting .55 back anyway.

Honestly, to me the practice of adjusting down the amount of the coupon to .50 and then getting reimbursed for .55 from the manufacturer sounds kind of fraudulent on the store's part. Hopefully they'll just give you the overage - why should the store be making an extra five cents on each coupon?

I was told at Walgreens once that adjusting the price by 1c ($1 Q on 99c item) was coupon fraud. I wish they would just have the sale prices match the coupons and we would all be happy :)
It annoyed me that they put out the 55c TP Qs the night before they went on sale for 47c.
