Default Stimulus Check Extras From Albies!

Link to article in my local paper-

"BUY GROCERIES!

Albertsons will offer gift cards with an extra $30 thrown in for every $300 spent. To participate, customers must bring their economic stimulus and/or tax refund checks to a customer service desk with valid identification and an Albertsons' Preferred Card. Customers may purchase Albertsons gift cards in $300 increments up to $1,200 through July 31.
"It will be good for our customers because they won't have to convert their entire stimulus check," said Albertsons spokeswoman Donna Eggers in Boise."

Now I'm not sure if this is across the board, since it's from an Albertson's spokeswoman in Boise, and Albie's headquarters is in Boise...could be for everyone! I guess we'll have to call and check in our individual locations.
*Crossing my fingers it's in your area too!*

Cool. Thanks. I wish I had known about this BEFORE cashing my tax refund. Oh well, I guess the stimulus check will be here soon.

I don't have my Preferred Card anymore. I wonder if they'll just let me use my phone number like they do when I 'm buying groceries. I saw that other store chains were doing this and I was hoping Albies was, too.

you could always get an extra preferred card. We have two, I signed up my husband for his own and got 2 descent coupons in the mail from them.

Hm. If this is good in other areas, I wonder if those of us who receive tax refunds through direct deposit could somehow be eligible?

Our Albertson's doesn't have preferred cards anymore, so I guess this doesn't count for Florida.

Keep in mind that state tax will be applied to the cost of the card, and in most states , the purchases made with the card will also be taxed. That means the "state" will get to tax you twice. Not too good a scenario.

I don't think that is right--but I wouldn't know as I live in a sales tax free state.

Sales tax is not applied on the purchase of a gift card. I did tech support/help desk for Albertson's once upon a time and we occasionally had front end managers calling in saying that a register was charging sales tax for sales of gift cards and we'd have to apply a patch to the register or the server to resolve it.

Hi Stacia, I apologise if I sounded harsh. Thankyou very much for the info, and I'll be checking soon to see if the stores are complying.
With a respectful howdy,
Chris
