I was at Albertson's today checking out and heard a Customer Service tell my cashier that she could only accept one coupon per order. So I of course questioned what exactly did that mean?
What they were talking about was the Marcal coupons. They clearly state one coupon per person. They asked me how people get so many of these coupons and I told them that I purchase 6 papers a week. I told them that some people trade them and some buy them on Ebay and other coupon clipping sites. Customer service told me that for this particular coupon it says you can not auction it. I told them that my experience on Ebay is not that the item is being auctioned but that it is sold for a stated price.
Anyway, the conversation went on to where they also told me that they are not allowed to accept 2 coupons on a BOGO because the way their registers work, the free item actually rings up at zero dollars so it is NOT being purchased. I told them that Publix allows 2 on a BOGO because the coupon companies allow one per item purchased regardless of the stores sale. I showed them a Publix receipt and we noticed that in our area, Publix BOGO's ring in as item 1, price, item 2, price, and then after item 2 is a minus for the price of the item. So technically the item is not ringing in at zero dollars.
So, just a heads up that at least at my store, Providence and Bloomingdale, they are really watching coupons and you will no longer be able to use 2 coupons on a BOGO.
About the Marcal. They said that you needed to leave the store and re-enter to purchase another one and use the coupon. And they asked me to please ask you to have patience with them. They are just doing their jobs and don't want to lose their jobs. Recently a cashier that never missed work and was good at his job was terminated for accepting coupons in a way that went against their policy. They are very nervous about making an error and losing their jobs too.
Thanks for listening!!!!
