QUESTION Any Lincroft NJ shoppers? What is your experience there?

I had quite a conversation with the Asst store manager this morning.
Although it is not posted anywhere, turns out the store limits customers to one transaction per day.
I was there last night and spent 2 hours to put things together, then was not allowed to buy anything after the first transaction. why? ."oh, we were told only one transaction because there is so much fraud(?????) and people are buying too much(???????)". I did not argue, just took what I purchased and left.
went this morning to another Acme and did all transactions i wanted. no hassle and no problems. don't know exactly how much my shelf total was but i would say a couple of hundred dollars.
went back to yesterdays Acme, talked to the store assistant mgr. told him that even in court i am presumed innocent until proven otherwise, that i resent and do not appreciate being treated like i do something wrong/illegal/bad because i am trying to feed my family for less. told him that Acme is running a sale that requires me to reach that "magical" amount for transaction and it is too hard to do more than one of those orders together (never mind catalina would not print), etc, etc.
He tried to tell me that this is the corporate decision and that other stores don't follow it, but this store does.
I called him on this one. told him that i talked to corporate and that they said very clearly that these things are left strictly to the store manager discretion. it is absolutely amazing how he did not even look embarrassed when i called him on this. he said he would pass it on to the store manager. somehow, i don't believe it. never asked for my name or contact information.
told him that i spent $200 at another store this morning and am not coming back to this one. demanded politely my money back and returned everything. they found my coupons and gave them back with my money.
This store also now limits to 5 like coupons too.
used to be my favorite store, allways well stocked and well marked most of the time, but now I am not going back.
I also emailed corporate. I am always polite and nice and try to fly under the radar. but keeping quiet here would not do anything for those who try to feed their families for less. and i donate on a regular basis too.
funny thing is, most of my things had no coupons, which is very unusual for me, but capri sun has no coupons out and i was completely out.
i must say that i did a number of transactions there last week, many in the same visit and had no problems at all.

If you shop there, what is your experience?

That's crazy! So you mean, if I did my regular shopping trip this morning, get home, realize I forgot something--I can't go back & get it? I would ask to speak to the Store Director, District Mgr, whatever it takes.

If somebody was trying to cheat or was clearly clearing the shelves in a manner that was unfair or unreasonable, I could see limiting that person individually if really necessary. It is very silly to have this rule in place across the board for everyone! What fraud is he talking about?

It is laughable that a mgr would tell somebody not to spend any more money at a store by allowing only 1 transaction. What was he thinking??? With the economy the way it is and fierce competition, I cannot imagine why store personnel would want to alienate customers and drive them away?? Yet, for this and other reasons, it happens everyday.

I have had a few bad experiences myself last week at 2 different Acme stores. They were not appalling, but certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. Usually I do not have people say such things to me? One remark could be considered out of line. The other was an out and out fib. The 2 situations all involved coupon use.

Maybe I am getting burned out, or it seems harder and harder to try to coupon sometimes or both?

The stores get rated on sales and are not penalized for coupons or people getting stuff for free. Any store manager that has a clue would allow and encourage people to take full advantage of the deals to boost the store sales. Those that don't are cutting off their nose to spite their face (or however that crazy saying goes). They are just hurting themselves and sending people elsewhere/

Wow, that is really terrible! I shop at this Acme every week. So far I have only had a problem with one cashier who limited coupons to 5. I am going there tomorrow and planned to do 2 transactions ( I never do more than 2 at any store). Hopefully I won't have a problem , but if I do there is another Acme a few miles away that I will go to. Sorry you had such grief from the manager!

Wanted to update...I went this morning and did 2 transactions back to back and had no problem. I have noticed that whatever a cashier or manager says they back each other up...especially when they are wrong! I'm sure there is no rule about one transaction a day and if there were it is being broken all the time!

Finally got a call from corporate since the store mgr never called me back. was told that Acme is beginning to enforce a new policy where only one transaction per day is allowed. Period. this is due to all the shelf cleaners who are reselling. she was very nice though and said that there is no reason i can't do a deal a day the entire week. does not really help me much but at least something. really ensures that i will not set foot in store unless they have a deal. this is the way to get less business not more. their prices are sky high and if they don't realize that, too bad for them!

I replied to you per this call to Corp. in another thread, but incase you didn't see it:

I called Corp to confirm what the nice lady told you, as her claim is simply absurd and we don't want to worry that our deal hunting days are over unnecessarily.

There is nothing in Corporate's computer system to support the nice ladies claim of limiting each customer to patronizing an Acme store only once a day. So her claim is debatable at best and most likely untrue.

Lianne, I saw your response. I think you are right, and i also think that Acme corporate headquarters are not located in Red Bank, NJ, because this is where this call came from. Red Bank is right next to Lincroft, so i would not be surprised to find out that the call came directly from the store. Not telling the truth seems to be how they operate. i think it is the store decision and they are doing what i was told in the first place by corporate: store manager makes the decision and corporate stays out of it. I will shop there when ther is money to be made or when ther is a really good deal that i need. luckily i have 2 other Acmes that i can go to. they will get my business,
