SAD Interesting conversation with Acme Headquarters!!

Okay so I've been going round and round with Acme on wether or not they can accept Walgreens "manufacturer" Register Rewards for $XX OYNO. They go through the registers with no problems what so ever and I've used them there before until one day a head cashier said they would let me do it that one day but were looking into wether they were allowed. So I followed up wanting to make sure I wasn't breaking any rules and was told yes they will take them. Then I got into talking about why cashier's are also recently backing out Acme's automatic doubling of DND 5 coupons. She did confirm that Acme does pay the "doubled" coupon value and they are not reimbursed anything other than the face value plus $.08 for the mfq. She said that the cashier's are right though in over-riding the automatic doubling and that they're supposed to go by the wording on the coupons. I told her I didn't understand why MF's have DND 5's and DND 9's then and she had never heard of that. She was very well educated about coupons though so I was glad to speak to her. She is going to get up with her legal dept. and find out why there are DND 5's and DND 9's.

She did also tell me something else interesting. She said all Supervalu chains would be coming up with an upgrade soon that would require all coupons to be handed over to the SCO cashier b/f being allowed. She said, unfortunately, there's just too much fraud out there for these to continue to be self-moderated. I'll let you know if I hear back from her and what she says.

Only 1 of my acmes has a SCO, and that's when I use my IP ones. It would be a bummer. But we would still get some great deals as long as insert coupons doubled...

The Acme by me that has the SCO requires that you hand each coupon over to the cashier after you scan it. It's so time consuming because they scrutinize every coupon. It's faster to just go through the regular lane.

I can understand the need for that, I guess. But my stores really need more cashiers in the regular lines. Most of the time when I go during the day, they only have 1 or 2 lines open (and this is 3 different Acmes). I go through SCO because the lines are so long otherwise.

Stores in my area have been checking coupons for the SCO lines for a while. The one store that didn't do it is now planning on doing so. Why? Because people were using expired coupons.

I have no problem with the SCO people looking at my coupons and I even ask before I do my orders if they want to check my coupons first. I like to be at the SCO right by where the little attendant stand is so they can even watch my like a hawk if they want to. I use legit coupons, so no worries there. And if my coupons say DND, I count them as what thy say--face value only. If they double, good, if not, then I wasn't counting on them to.

It will be interesting to see what they say about DND 5's and DND 9's.

Still waiting to hear back...I did also talk to her about something else interesting though. I asked her what the policy is on returns when coupons were used. She said they can only return what you paid OOP. If you're whole receipt total was for only pennies and you're only returning a couple things from that purchase then you won't get anything back. I'm still puzzled how this would actually work. TBH I guess it would just be easier to return it without a receipt and get a gift card..or whatever their policy is for items returned without a receipt. She did confirm what I had done myself previously...that if you catch the error right away they can do the refund for you and then fish your coupons out for you. I still don't think this is right for the manufacturer to be able to submit for your coupons if you end up returning it...but she pointed out that in the end..with the amount of coupons they submit that they don't get paid back for...it ends up being a wash. I can also see it from their perspective too that then money technically could be "laundered" that way.

One Acme that I know of in DE on Concord Pike has had a paper taped over the SCO for a long time. You have to hand all your coupons to the cashier and she scans them all for you. The one I normally go to still allows you to do it yourself but many of the cashiers will come check the coupons when their little alarm goes off.

So I like the other poster ask them if they want to look at them first. That way everytime the little alarm goes off they just push it all right through. Much easier than having them keep coming over and opening the machine.

At this point I only use the SCO if I want to do multiple orders or the lines are real long. Or sometimes when one of my kids is with me because they like to scan the stuff.

Thanks for calling and asking about this. I am also curious as to why many of the IP'S say DND in the first place. This is something that the ACME headquarters probably would not know or be able to say for sure. I believe that the DND wording is included by the request of the retailers and not the manufacturers. The manufacturers have never paid more than the face value of the coupon plus handling. It was interesting that people have brought up the fact that stores offer double coupons and pay double, but not really if it says DND. If you see this response before you talk again and you wish, you could bring up the fact that ACME offers double coupons, but not in all cases. If they are truly offering double coupons they could or should double all of them, including The DND coupons. I have heard that some chains do indeed double the DND coupons, since it is their policy to double! thanks again.

Actually I did mention that to her and her response was that they are following the MF's requirements set forth on the coupon and they're required to by law...same as with exp. dates, quantities etc. She said it doesn't make a difference who's "paying" the double portion of the q...they still have to follow the MF's guidelines. Isn't it lovely when the blame is tossed to someone else
