In my area one manager told me she sends out every Saturday their weeks coupons, so she told me they can not take an expired coupon after the bag has been sent out that week.

For example if my coupon expires on a tuesday and I want to use it on Friday--they will accept it because it will go out in the same bag on Saturday. Manager said corp. won't know which day of that week I used it because all coupons are just bundled and mailed together, not by day but by week. She handles expired ecb's the same way.

But if it expires on tuesday or even Saturday and I want to use on Sunday-- They have told me they can not accept it because the bag was mailed out on Saturday for the week the coupon expired
Of course this is ymmv--because I have other managers who will occassionaly accept expireds, maybe it's as a courtesy. I just don't make it a habit, but it never hurts to ask.
