I worked at a shelter that did it as soon as they were done nursing, and the kittens can get done at 2 months/2lbs. If it's too expensive on your budget to get the babies done, call your local humane society or animal welfare league and see if they can point in the direction of low cost programs in your area. Some vet's who are very into helping with the overpopulation problem may even offer you a discount to get the babies done if you do the mom as well. There is a lot of help out there with all the agencies and programs trying to control the problem. Good luck
