I would tell the Manager/cashier to wait just a moment while I call their corporate customer service line. Also suggest that they "turn off the light at this register" because it may be a while.
I am sick of wasting my time shopping and then not getting the items - then going home, calling CS, then having to go back and gather all the items again.
I have done this 2 times and has worked great. It really backs up their check out lines, but it lets them know they cannot bully me into submission.
