If something is really neat, they say it’s the “best thing since sliced bread.” Personally, I’ve never understood that phrase, because although store-bought sliced bread is convenient and does the job, it’s nothing compared to homemade bread. And you don’t have to be a professional baker, or even have a bread machine to make delicious bread at home. Quick breads are extremely easy to make because they don’t require time to rise, kneading, or the use of yeast. In most cases, you just mix them right up, pour them in a pan and bake! They are very easy to customize too. You can throw in your favorite add-ins, like chocolate chips, fruit, fresh herbs, or even flavor extracts. The combinations are literally endless. Even if you don’t have a creative bone in your body when it comes to baking, there are plenty of recipes on the internet to get you started. Here are a few
of my favorites.[divider top="0"] [dropcap style="1" size="2"]1[/dropcap]
The great thing about bread is that you can make it for any occasion. It can be savory or sweet, and as simple or complicated as you want to make it. You can dress it up with fruit or herbs placed strategically on top, or a nice glaze. Many quick bread recipes can be whipped up in no time, so it’s great for when you find out you are having company
unexpectedly. And they freeze wonderfully too, so you can always have some on hand!
